Falken Azenis FK450 A/S Tire Review & Rating

Launched in early 2016, the new Falken Azenis FK450 A/S is designed for all types of sports cars, coupes and high-performance sedans. This ultra-high performance all-season tire is built to deliver reliable traction, responsive steering and added cornering grip for more spirited drivers who are looking to get the most out of their tires.

Falken uses a specially designed tread compound that features high dispersion silica, and matches it to an asymmetric tread pattern that gives the FK450 AS increased traction and handling at higher speeds on both dry or wet road surfaces. The tire’s wide shoulder blocks and continuous center ribs give it quicker steering response, which is a real plus for this tire. It furthers aids in braking and acceleration.

Four circumferential grooves and Falken’s 3D Canyon Sipe technology help in channeling away rain water and enhancing traction on wet streets and highways. It also reduces the risk of hydroplaning. It’s comparable to what you would find on other models like the BFG Comp-2 A/S.

The canyon sipes provide additional biting edges for better grip on light to moderate snow and ice. That said, the FK450 is not a winter tire by any means and struggles with braking/acceleration on heavy hard-packed snow and ice like most every UHP all-season tire.

Falken currently offers 48 sizes that range from 16-20 inches, and all sizes come with either a W or Y-speed rating. This model sports a 500 UTQG rating, which means it should provide a longer lasting treadlife than many tires in this class. A 50K mile tread warranty is also part of the package.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction
  • Quick steering response
  • Cornering grip
  • Treadlife

Cons

  • Traction on hard-packed snow and ice

Overall Thoughts

Falken has made quite a number of changes in their tire lineup recently, with many more to come, and the new FK450 A/S is a welcome addition to be sure. While many may feel that Falken is just another second-tier level brand name, tires like this one are quickly showing everyone they are serious about upping the performance levels.

You can expect to find more than adequate traction on wet or dry pavement. It delivers faster steering response and a good feel for the road surface. Cornering grip is nearly as good as you’ll find from top tires in this category. In addition, the ride is comfortable for a UHP tire, and treadlife has shown early on to be very good as well.

Overall, with its solid performance and lower budget-friendly price the FK450 A/S ranks in the upper half of this category.

  1. I just purchased two Falken FK450 AS front tires for my 2012 Hyundai Equus (245/45 R19). I need two rear tires (275/40 R19). What do you recommend?
