Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 Tire Review & Rating

The Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 is built for all-season highway driving for owners of light trucks, crossovers and SUV’s. Designed with dependable traction, increased ride comfort and longer treadwear, the AT20 has also been used as original equipment on a number of different vehicles.

An all-season tread compound and aggressive tread pattern give this tire good traction on dry pavement. The steering is responsive due in part to its center rib, while cornering and braking performance are enhanced by Dunlop’s VersaLoad Technology and intermediate tread blocks.

Four wider circumferential grooves and cross-cut sipes combine to increase traction on wet road surfaces while reducing the risk of hydroplaning. These added sipes are also beneficial in providing extra biting edges on snow and ice, although winter driving is not a strong point for the AT20.

Dunlop uses a multi-pitch tread design that works to eliminate excessive road noise and make for a more comfortable ride quality. The VersaLoad Technology, along with Dunlop’s unique bead apex and Dimensionally Stable Polyester body, further enhances ride comfort.

You’ll find several 15-18 inch sizes available on the AT20, and there is also a 60,000 mile tread warranty included as well.

Pros

  • Dry traction and braking
  • Steering response
  • Ride comfort

Cons

  • Winter performance
  • Treadlife

Overall Thoughts

The Dunlop AT20 provides a mixed-bag of results. While dry and wet traction are adequate, and the ride is comfortable on most road surfaces, there are also a few areas that need attention.

Performance in winter road conditions is below average. Light or deep snow is a problem for this tire, and ice makes it worse. We would definitely advise extra caution if you do any amount of winter driving. Treadlife has also been an area of complaint according to more than a few drivers.

Overall the AT20 is an ok if you mainly drive in 3-season conditions. That said, we would recommend other all-season tires like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and Cooper HTP among others that deliver better all-around performance than the AT20.
