Cooper Zeon ZPT Tire Review & Rating

The Zeon ZPT from Cooper is built for high performance all-season driving for both domestic and foreign sport coupes and smaller compacts. With its sporty characteristics and budget-friendly price, the ZPT has a lot of bang for your buck, and is well suited for vehicles that have had “plus fitment” upgrades.

It begins with a high performance tread compound that combines with the tire’s directional tread pattern to increases traction and handling on both dry or wet surfaces. The open block design and rounded shoulders enhance cornering power and provide added steering response and feel.

Two circumferential grooves and the tread’s swooping lateral grooves increase wet traction and expel water from under the tire. While this is an all-season tire, driving in winter road conditions is not what this tire is designed to do.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body increases tire stability and handling. The ZPT is available in an H-speed rating and comes with a limited tread warranty.

Pros

  • Very good dry traction and steering response
  • Outstanding cornering grip
  • Excellent value for the lower price than most tires in this class
  • Treadlife is better than you might expect

Cons

  • Wet handling could be improved
  • Tires have a bit more road noise than some drivers like

Overall Thoughts

Cooper has another winning tire on its hands with the Zeon ZPT. Dry traction and cornering grip are excellent for a high performance tire costing much less than ones from Goodyear, Bridgestone and other makers.

Treadlife is better than you might expect as well.  That said, there are a couple of downsides to this model though. First, wet handling could use improving upon. You will want to use some extra caution to prevent sliding the rear around on wet surfaces. (If you drive normally and ease off the accelerator you shouldn’t have any issues.)

Another issue for some is that the tires have produced a little more road noise than they liked. We have found that to be true with many models in this class of tires as they begin to wear down, and feel it is not a big problem with this particular tire.

Overall we like this tire, although new technology is starting to pass this tire by. It does feature a lower cost which makes it a good value for anyone looking for a high performance all-season tire.
