Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 Tire Review & Rating

The Weather-Master S/T 2 from Cooper Tires is the company’s winter weather performance tire for drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans, crossovers and smaller SUV’s. Developed with a studdable tread design, the Weather Master is engineered to provide outstanding traction and handling on snow, ice and other rough winter weather elements.

A unique tri-polymer blended tread compound is specially formulated to provide enhanced traction on wet or dry road surfaces, while also providing added performance and better overall treadwear. Deeper lateral and notched circumferential grooves increase handling on wet pavement, while also expelling waterfrom under the tread and reducing the risk of hydroplaning.

Cooper has given this model their exclusive Snow Groove Design Technology which not only increases the number of biting edges for snow and ice grip, but also enhances the retention of snow in the outer circumferential grooves to capitalize on the higher traction characteristics of “snow-on-snow” versus “snow-on-rubber”.

A computer-optimized tread pitch sequence aids in reducing tread noise and increasing overall ride comfort. Inside the tire you will find twin steel belts for added strength and durability.

The Weather Master features a new stud pin hold design, as well as the number of studs that can be used. The stud size is molded on the sidewall to make it more convenient to remember in the event you wish to install studs. Cooper recommends installing this tire in full sets of four tires for maximum safety and performance.

Overall Thoughts

The Weather Master is underrated among some of the bigger name winter tires. It’s performance in deep snow, slush, rain and even on cold dry pavement is on par with the winter tires from Bridgestone, Michelin and others. Steering is very responsive and the ride is good as well.

The tire is studdable, so for drivers who live in an area that sees a lot of snow and ice, you have the option of adding studs. The one area we would like to see improved upon is added grip on ice. Overall, the performance, long lasting treadlife and lower price make this an outstanding value among any winter tire brand.

Cooper provides a first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on the tire’s uniformity.

Materials and workmanship are covered for 5 years and include free tire replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. Cooper then prorates out the amount for the remainder to the time period.
