Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus Tire Review & Rating

The Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus is the company’s touring all-season tire that is designed for drivers of full-size pickups and sport utility vehicles. Used as both original equipment and as a replacement tire, the H/T Plus sports solid all-season performance to go with a surprisingly comfortable ride quality.

An all-season truck tread compound and attractive non-directional tread pattern utilize a more rounded tread profile that provides a balance of performance traction and a longer treadlife. Cooper’s unique optimized tread pitch sequence keeps out the road noise that affect other tires in this class. In fact this is one of the most quiet tires in this class altogether.

The tire’s see-through grooves and wider lateral slots enhance wet road surface handling, while reducing the risk of hydroplaning. High density sipe placement around the tread provides the biting edges that increase grip on snow and ice.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement for added strength and stability. A polyester cord body further enhances ride comfort. Cooper has included a built-in rim protector that helps in preventing curb damage to your expensive custom wheels. This model is available in 18 and 20 inch sizes.

Overall Thoughts

With its excellent dry traction and handling, you can expect dependable performance from the HT Plus. The steering is responsive, and tire stability is very good throughout the speed range. Even more impressive is the cornering grip you can expect on this tire. The one area we would like to see improved is the grip on wet pavement. It’s adequate, but for more spirited drivers you may find you’ll need to slow down a bit.

What may be a surprise to some is that for a larger tire the ride comfort is quite good. This has been mentioned in countless reviews by other drivers as well. In addition, Cooper has done a great job at eliminating the road noise with their optimized pitch sequence.

Tread life is ok, but we have heard from a few who have complained about a shorter lifespan. Overall, this model performs well and makes a good choice for drivers looking for larger sizes or plus fitments for their truck/SUV.

Warranty

Cooper includes a limited warranty on the HT Plus. There is first 2/32 inch of wear on the tire’s uniformity.

Materials and workmanship are covered for 5-years and include free tire replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. Cooper then prorates out the amount for the remaining time period.
