Cooper Discoverer CTS Tire Review & Rating

The Cooper Discoverer CTS is the company’s luxury touring tire under the Discoverer label that is designed to provide confident all-season performance along with premium ride comfort. Built for drivers of luxury SUV’s, crossovers and pickups, the CTS has quickly become one of Cooper’s more popular tires in their lineup.

An all-season tread compound that features both silica and carbon black is created to provide enhanced wet traction and better tread wear. Combined with Cooper’s four-stepped circumferential grooves, the CTS provides some of the highest wet road performance you’ll find in a truck/SUV touring tire. It confidently grips the road and offers excellent hydroplane resistance.

Dry traction and handling is increased due in part to the tire’s R-Tech construction. What that does is combine many of the various design features of the tire to better work together to improve performance on all types of roads and throughout the speed range.

Inside the tire you’ll find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement that add strength and durability to the tread. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort and overall tread wear. 16-20 inch sizes are available, and a 70,000 mile tread warranty is also included.

Cooper’s Discoverer CTS highway tire does a better than average job on dry and wet road surfaces. You’ll find confident performance in the way the tire sticks to the road. Cornering grip is good and the steering is crisp for an SUV tire.

Ride comfort is good for the most part, although you’ll feel the larger bumps and potholes. The tire is not that noisy, which is something many drivers have mentioned as well. The one glaring weakness would be the shorter treadlife. Yes, a 70,000 mile warranty is provided, but we’ve heard a few drivers only getting 35K miles from the tread.

Overall, this is a good performing tire that features a lower price for those on a tighter budget. Of course, if you have a higher budget then you can find other models in this class that will provide a longer treadlife and a little higher performance.

The CTS comes with a 5-year or 70,000 mile treadlife warranty on T and H-speed rated models. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are covered for 5 years. You will also find a 45-day road test guarantee on this model as well. Cooper will exchange the tire for another model if you are not 100% satisfied with the tire.
