Cooper Discoverer M+S Tire Review & Rating

The Discoverer M+S studdable winter tire from Cooper is designed to deliver increased traction and handling on snow, ice and other winter road surfaces. Developed for pickups, crossovers and SUV’s, the M+S features some of Cooper’s newest winter tire technology.

A specially formulated tri-polymer winter tread compound is engineered to adapt itself to cold temperatures and remain more pliable as the temps turn colder. The other benefit is the tread provides increased grip on both wet or dry road surfaces.

Unique Snow Groove technology included on this tire provides biting edges throughout the tire’s grooves for added traction on packed snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice. It does this without compromising tread element stiffness, resulting in better traction as well as enhanced overall handling.

D-Squared sipes in a zig-zag pattern throughout the tread further increase winter performance and grip. Cooper has deepened the sipe depth to give this tire excellent traction throughout its treadlife, not just during the first half of its tread life.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and a polyester cord body for added strength and durability, as well as enhanced ride comfort, which is an area that many drivers reviews have commented on. Sizes are available in 15-20 inches to go with optional load ratings up to an E.

Overall Thoughts

Cooper has come up with a winner in the M+S. Snow and ice traction is exceptional on this tire. Regardless whether it is a light dusting or a heavy snowstorm, this tire gets through it. Acceleration and braking on ice is very good compared to others in this class. Ride comfort is excellent and you will notice it doesn’t have all the road noise as many other snow tires.

Cornering performance is predictable. More spirited drivers will notice the softer sidewall, but this is not exactly advertised as a high performance tire. Overall, this is a solid performing winter tire that you can depend on when you need it most. Highly recommended.

Warranty

Cooper provides a limited warranty on the M+S. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are covered for 5 years and include free tire replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. Cooper then prorates out the amount for the remainder to the time period.
