Continental ContiWinterContact TS810 S Tire Review & Rating

The ContiWinterContact TS810 S from Continental features high-performance winter traction and handling on dry, wet, snow or ice covered road surfaces. Designed for drivers of more powerful sport coupes and sedans, the TS810 S is engineered to provide impressive European style handling and traction.

A silica enhanced tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern combine with more rounded shoulders to provide outstanding dry surface handling and powerful cornering grip. This tread compound also optimizes stability and prolongs overall treadlife.

ContiWinterContact TS810 from Continental Tire

Continental has increased the number of circumferential grooves on this tire to aid in evacuating more water from under the tire. Up to 5 wider grooves, depending on tire size, provide added handling performance and hydroplane resistance on wet surfaces. Multiple sipes around the tire that are 20% wider increase snow traction and help eliminate the need for studs.

Unique tread wear indicators on this model let you know when the tread depth has been reduced to 5/32 inch, which is the point that the tire has worn past its limits for providing winter traction. Inside the tires you will find two steel belts for enhanced strength and durability. They also increase ride comfort and prolong tread life. Continental recommends using these tires in full sets of four for the best performance.

Pros

  • Excellent traction on dry, wet, snow and slush covered road surfaces
  • Responsive steering and feel
  • Quiet and comfortable riding tire
  • Treadlife is good

Cons

  • Would like to see a little better deep snow performance

Overall Thoughts

One area that features impressive performance on the TS810 is the dry pavement traction and cornering power this tire provides. It drives like a summer tire in that regard. Handling and grip on wet, light snow, ice and slush is very good, although we would not put it on the line of the Blizzak, X-Ice and a few others.

Performance in deep snow has been an issue for many drivers and an area we would like to see improvement in. That said, this tire rides comfortably and has very little outside noise, and tread wear is very good.

  1. I bought 4 of these tyres this winter, which were recently produced according to the DOT code.
However I’m seriously disappointed with their wet grip, they start spinning too quickly when accelerating from standstill or in sharp corners. They also understeer quickly in fast corners on the dry.

We just had 2cm of snow and these tyres couldn’t cope with that at all, zero traction, almost impossible to accelerate or steer on a tiny layer of snow.

I’ve had summer tyres which were better in the snow than these “Winter Tyres” from Continental!
