Continental TouringContact AS Tire Review & Rating

Continental’s TouringContact AS touring all-season tire is designed to provide year round traction with a quiet and more comfortable ride. Used as original equipment over the years on vehicles like the Chevy Cobalt, Buick Lucerne, Pontiac G5 and others, the TouringContact AS is also available as a replacement tire for cars utilizing a P195/60R15 fitment.

An all-season tread compound that is designed with a lower rolling resistance for added fuel efficiency sports independent tread blocks for added traction and handling on dry or wet road surfaces.

Continental TouringContact AS Tire Review

Wide circumferential grooves, lateral grooves and added sipes around the tread combine to deliver enhanced wet handling on rain soaked roads, as well as added traction in the snow. Continental also incorporates a computer-optimized pitch sequence that lowers outside road noise for a quieter ride experience.

Inside the tire you’ll find two steel belts and a harmonized bead area and sidewall construction. The result is added strength and durability, as well as increased handling and performance.

Pros

  • Dry traction and handling
  • Steering response and feel
  • Ride comfort

Cons

  • Treadlife
  • Wet traction
  • Winter handling

Overall Thoughts

While Continental produces some excellent tires such as the ExtremeContact DWS06, Pure Contact with Eco Plus Technology and several others, the Touring Contact AS comes in as a big disappointment. Sure, it’s mainly an OE model, but performance is lacking in nearly every area on this tire. We feel that wet traction, winter performance and treadlife on this model could all be improved upon at a minimum.

Overall, if you’re looking for a replacement tire in this fitment we would recommend taking a look at other tires in this category like the PureContact, Michelin Premier A/S or Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus among a host of others.
