Continental Set To Launch Its First Off-Road Tire

(July 2016) Set for a September 2016 release, the new Continental TerrainContact A/T will have the distinction of being the company’s first-ever all-terrain tire.

The Continental TerrainContact A/T will initially be offered in a limited range of sizes, with more being added in November. Continental Tire has stated that the target market for this new tire model will be drivers who are looking for quiet ride, enhanced wet traction and an aggressive looking tread design.

Continental is utilizing what they term Traction Plus Technology which attempts to balance out off-road capabilities with on the highway driving comfort and control.

Other notable features on the TerrainContact AT include:

  • A tougher tread compound that includes silane additives for increased traction on wet pavement
  • Traction grooves and sipes around the tread that deliver added grip in the snow
  • Larger tread blocks for better long term durability
  • High-void tread pattern for off-road traction
  • 60K mile tread warranty

Continental has not stated what the exact range of sizes will be, but they have said this new off-road tire will include 15 LT sizes to go with 20 P-metric sizes. A number of these sizes will also feature raised white letters on the sidewall.
