Bridgestone Potenza RE92A Tire Review & Rating

The Potenza RE92A from Bridgestone is designed to combine sporty all-season traction and handling with a smoother and more comfortable ride. Used as original equipment on vehicles like the Subaru Outback, Infiniti FX35 and many others, the RE92A is available in both a standard version and one that has run-flat capabilities as well.

An all-season tread compound is matched with a symmetric tread pattern that is computer-optimized to provide maximum performance and minimal road noise. The tire’s interlocking tread blocks and larger outer shoulder blocks increase dry pavement traction and provide added steering response.

Bridgestone Potenza RE92A Tire Review

Four circumferential grooves channel away water from under the tread on rain soaked roadways, while added biting edges help in giving the tire more grip on snow covered surfaces. We’ll talk more on that in our overall rating below.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with nylon for added strength and stability throughout the speed range. A polyester cord body enhances riding comfort and promotes more even treadwear. Bridgestone offers sizes from 16-20 inches, and the tire comes with a 40,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Excellent dry traction
  • Steering is responsive and provides good feel
  • Ride is comfortable and quiet

Cons

  • Winter handling is poor
  • Tread life could be longer

Overall Thoughts

The RE92A is mainly used as original equipment today, which is why it is as popular as it is. Performance however doesn’t live up to Potenza standards and could be much better. While dry traction and steering response is very good, and the ride is comfortable for the most part, that is pretty much it.

Winter traction and handling is not up to other tires in this class. Many drivers in their reviews and ratings have mentioned the same thing. Beyond that, treadlife is shorter than expected for many. Although Bridgestone includes a 40,000 mile warranty, we have heard from drivers getting only 20,000 miles out of the tread which is unacceptable by nearly anyone’s standards.

Overall, we rank the RE92A in the lower half of the high performance all-season tire class. If you are looking for a better tire from Bridgestone we would recommend going with the RE970 AS Pole Position, or better yet going with a tire like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus or the BFGoodrich Comp-2 A/S.
