Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS Tire Review & Rating
Bridgestone’s Dueler H/P Sport AS is designed to fill the need of drivers looking for a summer high performance tire for their trucks, crossovers and SUV’s who seek both all-season traction as well as a higher level of handling and cornering grip.
Built with a silica tread compound and symmetric design, the HP Sport AS delivers increased dry traction, while high stiffness closed shoulders give this tire outstanding cornering capabilities. In fact it is one of the better tires in its class for cornering grip, which is an area that is often mentioned in other driver reviews.
Circumferential grooves and high angle lateral grooves combine to provide enhanced traction and handling on wet road surfaces while reducing the risk of hydroplaning at higher speeds. Bridgestone’s full depth tread design also includes added sipes around the tread for better grip on light snow covered surfaces, although traction in winter conditions is not a strong suit for this model.
Inside the tire are two steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability. The H/P Sport All Season is available in 17-20 inch sizes, and H, V or W-speed ratings. A 40,000 mile tread warranty is also provided.
- Dry and wet traction is outstanding
- Excellent cornering grip
- Steering response
- Winter weather performance
- Treadlife issues for some drivers
If you are a more spirited driver with a high performance truck, crossover or SUV and are looking for a tire that delivers car like traction and cornering grip on dry or wet pavement, the H/P Sport AS is for you. Steering is quick and provides excellent feel, while the tire remains stable at any speed.
However, this tire is not without its faults. The biggest of course is winter traction and handling. Simply stated, it is lacking the type of traction you need to navigate snow, sleet and ice. Expect to find some difficulty. The same can be said for braking and acceleration on ice. But this is really not a big surprise for a tire such as this. The other main issue we’ve heard many drivers complain about is the much lower than expected treadlife. To be fair, we have heard from some who have spoke highly of tread wear, but that’s a minority.
Overall, the HP Sport AS is a mid to lower model in its class. We feel it doesn’t match the performance levels of tires like the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus, Michelin Premier LTX, as well as the Bridgestone H/L Alenza Plus among several others.
