Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 Tire Review & Rating

The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 performance winter tire is designed to get you through the worst in winter conditions while providing increased handling and stability when the roads are dry or wet. Built for sport coupes and luxury sedans, the LM001 meets the severe snow service requirements and sports the three-peak mountain snowflake emblem (3PMSF).

Bridgestone uses an advanced tread compound that is specifically formulated for colder temperatures. This compound is matched up with a directional tread pattern for enhanced handling, braking and acceleration on dry, wet, snow, slush and other surfaces.

3D siping and Bridgestone’s Lamellan edge effect, which provides multiple added biting edges in the tread blocks, add to confident traction on snow, hard-pack and ice. They work well on this model as this tire delivers very good winter traction.

NanoPro-Tech polymers in the tread of the LM001 are designed to remain flexible when you’re driving in colder temperatures. This in turn enhances these tire’s grip and traction even further.

Knowing when to replace your winter tires is vital for maintaining performance and safety during the winter months. To help with this, Bridgestone includes winter wear indicators, or Snow Platforms, that quickly let you see when your tires are starting to wear down and won’t be able to provide the traction you need when there’s snow, ice or slush on the roads.

Bridgestone offers 16 to 20-inch sizes, with H, T, V and W speed ratings available. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Pros

  • Traction, braking and acceleration on ice, hard-pack and snow
  • Dry and wet handling
  • Comfortable and smooth ride for a winter tire

Cons

  • Sidewalls flex during harder cornering on dry pavement
  • A little extra road noise at higher speeds

Overall Thoughts

The Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 is a solid performing performance winter tire for the most part. There are many satisfied, long term repeat buyers of this tire and we’ve heard many new owners commenting on how they immediately feel safer driving on ice, snow and wet surfaces when they fit these tires to their vehicles.

Like any good winter tire, they make light work of getting through ice and snow. However, they also behave like a good quality all-season tire, giving driver’s the traction, grip, handling and control you look for in wet and dry conditions too. Reduced braking distances and improved acceleration can be expected when driving as well.

As with most winter tires, whether high-performance models or studless tires, the softer sidewalls flex more during harder cornering maneuvers. This may be an issue for more spirited drivers, but these are not billed as summer tires. Road noise is another area where a few drivers have complained, but again, a little extra noise can be expected.

Overall, the Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 is a nice option that has won the praises of most owners. While other tires in this class like the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4, Pirelli Serie 3 and Dunlop Winter Sport 4D are at the top, the LM001 is not far behind. It delivers good quality and overall performance for the money.
