Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 Tire Review & Rating

The new for 2015 Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 has been built specifically for drivers of all makes and models of pickup trucks, SUV’s and crossovers. Designed to replace the older DM-V1 that has been an excellent tire over the years, the new DM-V2 carries an impressive list of features that are made to add even higher levels of snow and ice traction that will help keep you safe when conditions get rough.

Bridgestone uses their newest NanoPro Tech multi-cell tread compound in the makeup of this tire that is designed to act in the same way a sponge soaks up water. It pulls up that small thin layer of water that sits on top of the ice or hard packed snow. The results are much better traction on ice covered road surfaces. An added benefit is that this compound remains more pliable in very cold temperatures which means improved overall dry and wet handling.

In addition, engineers of the DM-V2 have added a unique hydrophilic coating to the tire, which is also found on the WS80, that also helps pull water up into the cells whether you’re driving on ice or rain soaked pavement. Finally, Bridgestone has upped the number of tread block biting edges by 15% over the original DM-V1 which combined with the tire’s 3-D sipes, helps further increase traction in the snow.

It should be noted that Bridgestone utilizes this unique NanoPro Tech compound in the first 55% of tread depth. The remaining tread depth uses their standard winter tire compound. Naturally, this model carries the mountain/snowflake emblem designating that it meets or exceeds the tire industry’s standards for severe snow service.

The DM-V2 is available in a wide array of 15-22 inch sizes and in speed ratings of S or T. A limited tread warranty is also provided on all sizes.

Pros

  • Outstanding snow, slush and ice traction
  • Dry and wet handling is very good
  • Quiet comfortable ride

Cons

  • Treadwear may be an issue for some

Overall Thoughts

The new tread compound technology that Bridgestone has utilized on this tire, as well as their WS80, does its job well. Once you drive on it you’ll find yourself feeling more confident on the snow and ice. Braking and acceleration are just as good as what you find on the Michelin Xi2, which is the tire that most experts feel is the best in this class.

Our only negative with this tire is the treadlife. We’ve heard a few drivers reporting faster than expected treadwear. That said, if you’re a more spirited driver you might expect to see faster treadwear. We don’t feel that this is a big issue for the average driver and would certainly not let it get in the way of purchasing this tire.

In a lot of ways, the Bridgestone DM-V2 does for trucks, crossovers and sport utility vehicles what the Blizzak WS80 does for cars, and that is flat out deliver the best traction and handling on snow, slush and ice as you’ll find in a winter tire offered today. It provides safe and dependable performance to take you where you need to go when winter is at its worst. Overall it ranks right at the top of its class.
