BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX Tire Review & Rating

Finding an off road tire that can tackle the rigors of rock crawling in addition to any other type of terrain is not always easy and designing one is even tougher. However, the Krawler T/A KX from BFGoodrich manages to do this effectively. A set of tires designed for maximum performance in less than ideal driving conditions, the Krawler T/A has won more rock crawling championships than all other tires combined.

An extra deep tread design, aggressive independent locks with solid sidewall lugs combined with a soft tread compound provides optimal off road performance and grip in even the most stressful of conditions. It’s what gives this tire its outstanding crawling abilities.

For added durability and to cope with the terrain the BFG Krawler T/A KX also has twin steel belts and four nylon sidewall plies to provide increased puncture resistance and a longer treadlife.

With sizes 15-20 inches and M+S rated, Krawler T/A KX tires are ideal if you like to take the path less trodden.

Pros

  • Exceptional rock crawling capabilities
  • True off-road performance in all terrain
  • Durable and long lasting tread

Cons

  • Tires are expensive
  • Not for snow or ice

Overall Thoughts

While they can’t be considered a mainstream tire, the Krawler T/A KX’s from BFGoodrich are as close as you will get to an all-round MT tire that is equally at home on rocks as it is on the highway. Its rock crawling abilities speak for themselves and there is nothing we can add that has not already been proven time and time again. We do wish they had made more sizes available.

The fantastic traction holds its own in mud, on rocks and off the beaten track while the overall design creates a solid tire for driving in both wet and dry conditions on the road as well. One thing we would like to see added is some siping around the tread for driving in winter weather conditions. As it is now, we don’t advise driving on them when winter hits unless you get them siped at your local shop.

The tread wear is good for this type of tire and getting close to 30k out of them isn’t unreasonable. Noise is there, but it’s not the worst we’ve heard.

Overall, this is one of the better off road MT tires around and while there is no tread wear warranty they are durable and long lasting for optimal performance. Finally, if you have any plans on rock crawling… this is a tire that is up to the task.
