Goodyear Assurance UltraTour Tire Review & Rating
The Goodyear Assurance UltraTour, which is available exclusively at Discount Tire, is specially designed for ride comfort and all-season traction. It’s built for use on all types of mid-range and upscale coupes as well as sedans and minivans.
To achieve a higher level of ride comfort, Goodyear uses a super shock absorbent layer of rubber that is built between an inner and outer layer of the tread compound and steel belts. According to Goodyear’s testing, this design provides upwards of 20% more cushion than other tires in the Assurance class.
The tire also includes an insulating layer of rubber that protects against vibrations and impacts with expansion joints, potholes, and bumps. In addition, Goodyear’s dual-layer ComfortEdge sidewall is designed to provide an excellent balance of handling and ride comfort. This is an area that many drivers have praised in their reviews on this tire.
An asymmetric tread pattern, tighter shoulder blocks and continuous center rib deliver solid dry traction and more responsive handling and cornering stability. Four circumferential grooves, numerous lateral grooves and hundreds of sipes around the tread aid in wet traction and reduce the chances of hydroplaning when conditions turn bad. These added sipes further help on snow covered surfaces.
The UltraTour’s carcass is built with twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon that rest on top of a polyester cord body. This provides for added strength and enhanced long term durability. You’ll find a wide range of 14-17 inch sizes available, and Goodyear backs this model with a 70K mile warranty.

Overall Thoughts
We like this new Goodyear Ultra Tour for a variety of reasons and feel it is an excellent addition to the passenger tire lineup. It provides a great balance between ride comfort and road handling. The unique tread compound and Goodyear’s tire technology helps substantially in providing very good comfort, while also maintaining the type of handling/stability that you look for in a premium touring all-season tire.
An area we could see improving would be performance in winter weather conditions. While it does get around pretty well in lighter amounts of snow, deep snow, and in particular, icy road surfaces, may be a different story.
Overall there is nothing that would prevent us from purchasing this tire. For the lower cost and quality ride, the UltraTour ranks high in its class.

Warranty
Goodyear provides a 6-year or 70,000 mile tread warranty on the UltraTour. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear.
Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

I bought two of these about 3 years ago 19K miles later the tires are worn down to wear bars.
6 year warranty and 70k miles no way. Trash very disappointed.
6778 miles on 225×60 x17, right rear was punctured by screw less than 1/4 inch long. tread is down to the wear bars. Run away from these tires!
Put a full set of these on our 2013 Edge FWD and only got 14,000 miles out of them. Wearing evenly, just fast. Won’t be replacing them with Goodyear again.
Just removed my set of 4 Goodyear Assurance Ultratour tires. I managed to get 22,000 miles before all 4 tires were worn to the wear bars evenly across the tread. Very disappointing from a 70,000 mile tire. On the up side, the wet traction and hydroplaning resistance was terrible from day one so I was glad to see them go. Dry traction was fine and overall ride was good. Tires were mounted on a 05 Ford Taurus with good alignment, tire balance and rotation at least every 4K miles because of the rapid wear. 50/50 highway and city driving.

These tires are terrible, very loud… especially in the rear. Extensive premature wear. Junk tires. Stay away away from them.

These tires are very poor quality. I have rotated every 5000 miles and now with only 28000 miles on my set on a 2014 corolla I only have 4/32 left for tread. I have had 4 previous sets of Goodyear tires on different vehicles and always very good tires until now….ts unfortunate to see such poor quality.

Thank you for your invaluable input. Tire mileage is one feature of tire design that can only be accurately gauged through customer feedback. Goodyear tires generally last as long as marketed, it is unfortunate that you have faced problems with the tires you purchased, we’ll research to validate if this can be attributed to a defective tire or if this is a result of poor build quality.
I only have 18,000 miles driven on these tires and they’re more than 75% wore out. They’re on my dodge nitro. Don’t waste your money on these junk tires. I bought them from discount tire.

Not so lucky, had 2 replaced prorated due to extensive wear in short period and yesterday one literally blew apart on the highway. Yikes. Consider other options. .
