Continental CrossContact LX20 Tire Review & Rating

Built to provide touring all-season performance on the highway, the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology is the company’s latest tire for drivers of SUV’s, pickups and crossovers.

An eco-friendly tread compound utilizes specially developed Tg-F polymers and +Silane additives to enhance traction, provide for better overall treadwear and gain a little extra fuel mileage. The tire’s continuous center rib and independent tread blocks add better grip on dry surfaces, while also increasing steering response and feel, an area frequently mentioned as a real plus from other driver reviews.

Continental CrossContact LX20 Tire Review

Continental has added four circumferential grooves to a symmetrical tread design, as well as its exclusive Traction Grooves to improve traction on both wet and snow covered roads. In addition, these grooves are strategically placed around the tread to aid in reducing road noise and increase overall ride quality.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped polyamide for added strength and durability. They also enhance treadlife, which Continental backs up with a 70,000 mile tread guarantee. Available in sizes from 16-18 inches, a rim protector is also included to prevent accidental damage from curbs to your expensive wheels.

Pros

  • Excellent dry, wet and snow traction
  • Responsive steering and solid in the corners
  • Smooth and quiet ride
  • 70,000 mile tread guarantee

Cons

  • A few drivers have reported having vibration problems

Overall Thoughts

The LX20 has been a pleasant surprise in how well it performs. Traction on all types of road conditions, including snow, has been excellent. Better still, if you find yourself wanting to go off-road into light terrain, this model is up to the task.

Steering control and feel are good as well, although perhaps not as precise as Pirelli’s Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. You’ll find this tire corners very well, and the ride is smooth and comfortable.

A few drivers have mentioned having vibrations further into the tread life, while the majority of others have never had any issues. Continental backs up the tire with a 70,000 mile warranty, which is among the best in class.

Overall, we really like this model and recommend it as one of the top tires in this class. If you’re looking for a touring all-season tire that delivers a smooth, quiet ride to go with dependable traction and handling, you won’t be disappointed with the LX20.

  1. My new Mercedes comes with the Continental tires from this thread. Are they runflats? Would appreciate an email answer from anyone! kpware at ymail dot com, thanks….

  2. These were replacement tires from a tire recall on my GMC Yukon. Pressure maintained with average frequency. Still some thread but getting out of my comfort zone so with only 37,000 Miles. I’m going to replace with a different brand. A little hydroplaning recently makes me not have them when winter comes. My Dealer wrote them up “officially” in Fair condition but recommended replacing due to some edge wear. My Yukon is noisy with windows down not sure it’s the tires or just the wind dynamics of the the SUV. Ride was ok so no serious complaints. I’ve never gotten 50K on any SUV/Truck tire but I usually go for quiet and ride over mileage.

  3. Continental CrossContact LX20 275/55R20. 70,000 mile Warranty.
    We live in Central Texas.
These were original equipment on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
    They lasted 39,374 miles.
The tires received Constant Air Pressure Checks, and Rotation every 5,000 miles.
They tires were never driven in Adverse Conditions or Off Road.
Continental markets and advertises a 70,000 mile warranty on Continental CrossContact LX20 275/55R20.
When my Chevy Dealer contacted Continental Customer Service about the warranty, Continental said that the 70,000 mile warranty does not apply to tires on New Vehicles, and would not honor the 70,000 mike guarantee they advertise. I called Continental Customer Service myself, to ask why, and was told “We Just Don’t Do That”

  4. Absolutely terrible do not handle well in deep snow rear end breaks loose under mild excellaration on wet roads going to go with BFG KO 2 s

  5. I have enjoyed driving my Ford Edge with Continental Cross Contact LX 20 tires this summer. I drove through a rain storm on the interstate 35 out of Minneapolis, MN, The handling was better than expected. I cannot believe I am typing this, however; I look forward to driving on these tires this winter. As most people know, winter in Minnesota can be tough on tires. Stay tuned!

    1. Hello Lynne. We are sorry that you didn’t have the best experience. We would suggest that you go through our website as it will greatly help you in choosing the best tires for your vehicle. Good day to you!

    2. Wife was sold a set of these for her Armada RWD in late 2017. CONT. CC LX20 275/60R20. Front tires look to be coming apart. Little chunks, and splitting/peeling. 25,000-30,000 on set. Regular service, she checks pressure frequently, city/hwy only. Another tire shop asked if I drove over railroad tracks daily…???. Uh no. Do not believe these are safe to keep going. Taking to Nissan where they were installed.

  6. I have a 2017 suburban with 25000 miles tires are at 4/32 not so sure this tire will get the recommended 70000 miles they do ride nice but don’t last that long

    1. Have this tires on 2015 Gmc Sierra purchase new. They road rough felt every bump on the, road.with only 16,000 miles. Starting to chip were worn ,Tires had been roatated twice. Dealership contacted continental They replaced them.Still coasting 480.00 out my pocket. Now have 32,000 on truck 16,000 0n 2nd set have not chipped like other did .But woar just as bad ,Don’t thank full 30 out of them.Every once in awhile fills like a belt woblly.I keep psi. Up Roatated two times.Gave them a 2nd shot won’t again!

  7. Very impressed with the LX20. I’ve had all terrains like yokohama at/s, bfgs, coopers, hankook dynapro… despite being awesome in deep snow and aggressive looking, but they all had the same issues that im really annoyed – NOISY / LOUD after mostly 3 yrs. Im done with all terrains, and i dont even OFFROAD! just the for the looks. 3 things im impressed with the LX20: fuel saver, ride comfort, and VERY QUIET!!! im pretty sure there’s alot of good all season tires out there, heard about yokohama yk-htx, goodyear fortera hl, but im still happy with this continental lx20. haven’t tried it on snow yet but we’ll see.

  8. I have the LX20 as OE on my 2015 Nissan Murano AWD SV purchased in OCtober 2015. So only a few weeks that year. Full 2016, full 2017 and full 2018 summer season. I have a total of 65,000km on my odomoter which i would say 35,000km are with the LX20. I am due to replaced all 4 of them. good quality, even wear, but did not last the 112,000km warranty on their website. Not sure if I will purchase them again.

  9. I own a 2017 Rav4 , Continental Cross Contact 225/65/17 LX came from factory , tires are very noisey ,tires are cupped ,rotation did not help . . very unhappy with these tires , they actually case my head to ache when driving on the hiway .

    1. Cupping is not caused by the tire, it’s caused by the car. You might have done well to have them rebalanced and a realignment done.
