Michelin LTX M/S 2 Tire Review & Rating
Michelin has been making quality all-season tires for trucks, vans and SUV’s for many years now, and this new LTX M/S 2 may arguably be their best yet. This new generation M/S2 offers the latest in tread design and tire technology to provide for years of trouble-free use. It is a night and day difference from the original LTX M/S model, which has been a best-seller in their lineup for years as well.
The all-season tread compound is silica enhanced and designed to prolong treadlife, while also shortening braking distance. Featuring a symmetric tread design, the tire sports 3-D Active Sipes that deliver better handling and performance on dry road surfaces, as well as on rain soaked roads.
Whether the road is wet, snow or slush covered, the four wide circumferential grooves around the tread combine with lateral grooves and shoulder slots to expel water from under the tire and enhance traction and grip. Many drivers have commented that this model makes driving in the rain or on the snow feel just like driving on dry pavement. That’s the kind of added confidence Michelin was wanting to provide.
Michelin’s Max-Touch Technology gives the tire a wider tread contact patch and distributes the forces of acceleration, braking and cornering more evenly for better steering control and response. It is also responsible for increasing ride comfort by eliminating road noise and giving a more smooth ride quality.
Inside the tire you will find two high-tensile steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability. For those needing to haul heavy loads, there are three steel belts on Load Range D and E sized tires. A 70,000 mile treadwear warranty is also included with this tire.

This Michelin tire is not only fun to drive on, but it gets our vote as the best in class all-season truck/SUV tire for city/highway use. Everything about this tire is quality, safety and performance. The handling and traction on dry, wet and snow covered roads is superb. Steering response is excellent, and the ride is as you would expect from a Michelin tire; smooth, quiet and comfortable.
Yes, the tire is not cheap by any means, but with the safety, higher quality and longer tread life you receive, the value for the money is outstanding. There is a reason why you see review after review from other tire owners all saying how happy they are with this Michelin tire…because it really is that good. Warranty
The LTX MS2 has a 6-year or 70,000 mile treadlife warranty. There is also a one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on the tire’s uniformity.
Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include first year or first 2/32 inch of wear free tire replacement. A prorated amount is applied for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

These are hands down the best tires I have ever owned. I ran the last set for 95,000 miles and they still had life left. I’m not kidding. I will never buy another tire for my trucks. You pay more, and it is well worth it.
It really hard to find any faults with this michelin tires. My brother got 95,000 miles out of his set. I don’t think that the new defenders will last half as long as these.
Does anyone like these tires for a 2008 Ford Escape? Only 30,000 on this car but has original tires which have dry rot and are noisy. Are these tires only recommended for the larger SUVs?
You do realize that you are complaining about tires that are 10 years old right?
I have to agree with Mike. I have owned 4 sets of Micheline LTX MS. 3 sets of the LTX MS and the last set was the LTX MS2’s. These tires were run on an 05 F-150 King Ranch 4×4 a 2002 Chevy Tahoe LT 4×4. I CANT SAY THIS STRONG ENOUGH. THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TIRES I’VE OWNED over the past 40 years and well over 1 million miles of driving between my wife and I. We currently live near Cleveland Oh, prior to that Louisville, KY and prior to that Cincinnati Ohio. In every environment, every kind of “on road” driving these tires are smooth, quite, extremely long lasting and most important to my wife and I . . . . they handle amazingly well in rain, light to 10″ inches of snow and remarkably well on ice . . . . understanding that clear ice is still extremely dangerous even with these amazing tires. Our last set on the Tahoe had 117,000 miles when we sold the Tahoe at 260,000 miles. I was an airline pilot but about 10 years ago. I’m now a custom home builder and general contractor. On the F-150 and the Tahoe, these tires were noticeably quieter and smoother driving than the tires that come from the factory. Tomorrow we are picking up a brand new Jeep Grande Cherokee Overland 4×4. We are driving straight to my tire dealer . . . the one that has free rotation and balancing for the life of the tires. I’ll sell the new Bridgestone tires that come on the Jeep on Craigslist. We have learned that Michelin, if rotated every 3-5000 miles will easily last 80-100,000 miles. NOW …. I’ve since been told it isn’t a good idea to run any tire 100,000 miles + so I won’t run the tires much past 70,000 warranty in the future. Now . . . . . . these are not all terrain tires. Their really all season and designed for improved road operation.
It’s hard not to sound like I work for Michelin in talking about this tire, but I don’t. I’ve had this tire on my 09 Silverado for the last 22,000 miles and the tires still look like they did the day they were installed. The tread wear has been great. But I think it would be the smoothness and comfort level that surprises me the most. Unlike the old Brdigestones that came with it, the MS2 doesn’t pass on every bump in the road.
I live up in Michigan and we’ve had some rough weather the last month. A recent storm dumped 11 inches and I thought this might be where this tire gives out, but no way, it went right through the snow. I just can’t say enough good about these tires. I’ll never put any other brand on my truck. They outperform any other tire I’ve used in my 44 years of driving.
Dear Mike I read your review on these tires as I stumbled upon this page.I am in the market for a new set of tires for my 2007 f 150 xlt 4×4 supercrew. The truck came new in 07 with BFG RUGGED TRAILS at 53,000 miles in 2012 replaced them with the same tire and now have 105.000 BFG replaced the RUGGED TRAIL WITH RUGGED TERRAIN. I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews on the new style.been racking.my brain all week trying to decide what to get heard a lot about these that you got I live in Chicago so we don’t get a lot of snow and I DON’T do a lot of off roading I’m leaning towards the MICHELINS myself sounds like you really like yours THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY FEEDBACK
Hi Dan. I’m sure you have replaced your tires already. I’ve run the Michelin on an 05 F-150 King Ranch 4×4 and on a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. They have been the best tires we, my wife and I, have ever owned and we have owned a lot of tires and vehicles over the long years of our lives. The key to being happy with any tire is making sure the air pressure, alignment and balance as near perfect as possible. From my experience over the last 40 years, most people just don’t take the time to rotate, balance and keep the vehicle aligned. We recently leased an Acura MDX. it came with Continental tires. My wife complained, and so did I about the tires the entire time we had the lease . . . 39 months. We are turning in in a couple of days. Anyway, because the car was a lease and the rotation and balancing cost so much . .. we only rotated and balanced 3 times over the 38,000 miles. The tires are absolutely worn out and as loud as mud grips.
