Built to deliver a balance of aggressive off-road performance with smooth on-road drivability, the Discoverer ATP from Cooper Tires provides light sport truck and SUV drivers an all-terrain tire that features the latest in tire technology and performance.
A silica-enhanced tread compound combined with an aggressive 5-rib tread pattern and large lugs increase both on and off road traction and grip on all types of road surfaces. The outside shoulders are scalloped for added traction in sand, mud and snow.
When the terrain turns extreme, the linked tread blocks are designed to provide added stability to get you where you want to go. Serpentine sipes further increase handling and also prevent small stones from gathering in the tread grooves.
One thing you will notice when driving on the highway, or around town for that matter, is how quiet this model is. Road noise is reduced through Cooper’s multi-pitch tread block design, and this is an area we’ve heard many positive reviews come in from other drivers.
Inside the tire you’ll find twin steel belts with nylon reinforcement for added strength and durability. They also increase tread life, which Cooper stands behind with a 55,000 mile tread guarantee. The ATP is available in a variety of 16-20 inch sizes.

Overall Thoughts
For the most part, it seems like the Cooper ATP tire flies under the radar so to speak. You hear so much more about other bigger name models. That’s somewhat unfortunate because more truck and 4×4 owners should hear about how well this tire performs.
This model is very similar to the Discoverer AT3, which won an award for best AT tire of 2011. Off-road traction is excellent on all types of terrain, whether it’s rocks, sand, mud, etc. It simply goes through anything.
Equally impressive is this tire’s on-road manners. It is a quiet tire for an all-terrain model. Traction on dry or wet pavement is very good, and grip on snow and ice is on par with the better tires in this class. Finally, the tread holds up well, and Cooper backs it with a 55K mile guarantee.
Overall, there’s several very good AT tires on the market today, from the BFG T/A KO2 to the Michelin AT2 among many others, but this Copper ATP takes a backseat to no one. It’s an excellent tire that ranks very high in this class.

Warranty
Cooper includes a 55,000 mile treadlife warranty on the Discoverer ATP. There is also a first 2/32 inch tire uniformity guarantee as well.
Materials and workmanship are covered for 5-years and include free tire replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. Cooper then prorates out the amount for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

Bought a truck that came with a set of Discoverer ATP’s on it. They are by far the loudest tires I’ve ever had on a vehicle, but they were new at the time and I wasn’t interested in wasting $1,200 replacing new tires jus to get rid of the noise. They also didn’t do well in mud, but 99.999% of my driving isn’t in mud, so also not worth replacing over. The tires now have about 45k miles on them, they still have about 1/2 of their tread left, so wear isn’t terrible. The deal breaker that makes me wish that I’d replaced them earlier: One of them threw its tread and blew out while I was driving 62mph and towing a boat. Fortunately, I was able to get the truck stopped without anything terrible happening, just some sheet metal and plastic parts damage around the wheel well. I checked pressures on my tires two weeks ago and the pressure sensor wasn’t showing any issues before it happened, so pressure isn’t likely the cause. Didn’t hit anything in the road, so also not a likely cause. While shopping for replacement tires, I noticed a few random ads from attorneys regarding Cooper tire blow outs and tread separation, did a little bit of reading, apparently it’s a common problem.
Bought a 2016 4 Runner Trail with 20,000 miles in 2019 – had these tires on it. They are without doubt the loudest tire on the highway I’ve encountered in over 60 years of driving- incredibly and unpleasantly loud – made long highway trips a torture test – couldn’t wait to put enough miles on them to justify dumping them. Traction was okay, but no better than any standard highway tire. Give these a pass if you value your hearing and sanity.
I’ve had the ATP tires for 5 years and they won’t wear out. I have 56K on them with 8/32 left. For comparison, my 285/75R17 size came with 17/32 when new. Many thousands of these miles have been off-road through 7 Western states and they have performed very well on everything except clay, I am also pleased that there is hardly any chunking after all those trails and miles off-road. The negatives are some slipping when cornering sharply in ice and increased road noise as the tires have worn down. This is to be expected with most AT tires so it isn’t i usual but it is noticeable. Overall a great performer for a mixed use vehicle that sees a good combination of on and off-road use. I’d buy for it’s longevity and performance and then turn up the radio a little after 40K miles.
I have to agree with the negative comments regarding use of these tires in snow….terrible. Dry and off road…they’re fine.
Disagree! 100%! Frontier Sv 4×4. Just plowed through 12” of snow with no issue. My entire parking lot at the apartment is 2” of ice. Had a blast in a an empty parking lot with snow drifts over two feet. Past not one but two emergency vehicles trying to go up an icy snow packed hill. What more do you want for a tie that cost me less than $160 a piece. Plus they are quiet! Might want to buy a different vehicle.
I’ve been pretty happy with my cooper atp’s have them on 2014 ram 4wd. They make a little noise at slower town speeds but quiet down at highway speeds . This will be the third winter and have 25 k miles on them now great traction in snow no hydroplane issues. Tread still at 7/32 so we will see if they make it to 55k
It’s interesting to me that only a handful of folks speak negatively about these tires in the snow. this is my second year with these tires, Everything else about the tire I like…Tread wear, comfortable noise level, mountain terrain, wet pavement, price…but snow…uh, nope ! I have an 06 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton with canopy and usually a good amount of weight in the bed. Driving out of my neighborhood I slowly round the cul d’ sac, slight turn to the right, (2-3mph) tires are turning to the right…but truck is going straight ! so aggravating, it’s like there is ZERO grip in the 2″ of snow, same thing at stop sign, want to go right, slightly accelerate to make my turn…truck tries to go straight for about 10 feet before it realizes oh crap! we’re supposed to be turning now! This happens in 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, doesn’t matter, and stopping ?? GEEEZE I have to start braking a 1/4 mile before the stop sign/light…(only slightly exaggerating) I believe I shouldn’t be experiencing this amount of trouble in the snow. I am definitely going to try a different tire next purchase. But like I said, I Like everything else about them, I would give them a 5 star rating, but handling in snow…1 star.
I pull a 32ft 5th wheel and purchased a set of these tires about 5 years ago. I was apprehensive when I bought them but the stock. Durivis that came with the truck was worthless in light snow. They looked to aggressive for RV towing I was wrong. They performed great in snow and in the summer while towing.
Some noise, but its better than spinning your wheels when trying to exit a grassy camp site thats wet with Highway tires on. Lots of miles on the truck now and the tires still look fair but right front tire is wearng on the out side and right rear tire developed a slow leak. I will be replacing them tommorow with same tires. I spent a lot of time comparing prices,quality and reviews. It al came back to the most quality for my budget. After reading many reviews on many brands and types, I guess I will stick with the devil I know. I dont go mudding or rock climbing ,I avoid gravel if I can and I have a good year round tire for my money
I’ve had 265-75-16’s on my Tacoma for almost 6 years and they’ve been a phenomenal purchase. They’re quieter than the BF’s that came w/ with the truck and handle any terrain just as well. I don’t understand all the negative reviews, especially considering I’ve easily put over 60k miles on them back and forth from NM, TX and CO with tons of rafting gear, trailor pulls and everything in between. I did my research on these tires before buying them and got exactly what I expected, I think these bitter folks with their negative reviews should have done the same….

Will never buy this tire again. Regret everyday not getting the revo 3s. Decided to give the coopers a try since it was going to be a week before i could get the revos in. Worst tire ive ever had for off road use. Driving in a inch or two of snow the tires have no grip. Driving in the pasture i have to put my truck into 4×4 . Sadly from how this tire has been i have to say the stock goodyears that came on the truck from the factory were much better and it wasnt an A/T tire.

Count me as a happy owner. I have put my ATP’s through 6 years of heavy 5th wheel towing and they have held up tremendously. Because of those years I must look to replacing them because of age. Tread life has been great considering the loading on them but I haven’t traveled 50-60k on them and never would considering their use. For their aggressive look they are relatively quiet. Will buy again.

Do not buy these tires.. Worst tire I have ever owned..Discoverer 245/65R-17. They are on my 2013 Explorer and are so loud they almost make the vehicle un-drivable. Emailed with Cooper Tires who attempted to blame the noise on my vehicle, then Discount tires and now refuse to answer me. Customer service is non-existent.

Discoverer ATP 245/65R-17 on my Ford Explorer. These are the worst tires I have ever owned. They are so loud they make the vehicle almost un-drivable. Emailed back and forth with Cooper Tire. Cooper tire attempted to blame the problem on Discount Tires, where I bought the tires. Discount Tires, who is staffed by a bunch of 20 year olds wouldn’t even drive the vehicle to listen to the noise. Cooper Tire then blew me off. Wont even answer my Emails anymore. Unless you want to go deaf driving then get ignored don’t buy Cooper Tires.

bad tires cupped real bad very noisey on the highway i called cooper they told me to kick rocks and i sale there tires but not anymore i will never offer cooper tires to anyone
Worst tires I’ve ever owned. Les than 10000 miles. Already replaced two. Don’t get these tires near a rocky road. Ruined one driving down a gravel road. The other had an impact puncture on paved roads.
I have practically purchased 2sets. I set originally and and 4 tires thru road hazard. I wouldn’t purchase these tires again. It seems like the tread strength is not that great. I’ve have 2 nails mess up the steel belts and 2 punctures caused by small rocks. It seems like they are only good for the high way and not as the tire suggest, all terrrain.
