Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G051 Tire Review & Rating
The Geolandar H/T-S G051 is a member of Yokohama’s family of three distinct highway all-season truck, van and SUV tires. Each of these three different models sport their own unique tread pattern for a particular need. The G051 is designed for drivers who are looking for a tire for light duty year-round on-road driving needs.
An all-season advanced tread compound combines with a symmetrical tread pattern to provide enhanced traction and handling on wet or dry road surfaces. The tire’s cross-grooves and rounded shoulders increase dry traction and cornering performance, while increasing steering responsiveness as well.
Wide circumferential grooves and added sipes help provide wet pavement traction and handling, including light snow. The grooves are also designed to increase hydroplane resistance and add more confidence when driving in bad weather, but we feel the tire falters in this area. Yokohama utilizes the latest in computer design technology in placing the tread blocks around the tire to where they provide the best noise reduction. The result is improved ride quality without all the road noise.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts for added durability and more strength, which increases stability at higher speeds. They also increase treadlife by creating more even tire wear. Yokohama includes a 60,000 mile tread guarantee, and the G051 comes in 15-18 inch sizes.

Overall Thoughts
These H/T-S G051 tires are similar to Jekyl & Hyde in many ways. They provide good performance when it comes to traction on dry pavement. The steering is crisp and provides good feedback. Ride comfort is above average and this tire is very quiet out on the road. Many drivers have also commented on the longer treadlife this model provides, and the 60,000 mile warranty that Yokohama includes.
On the other hand, this tire stumbles with its performance on wet streets. You get the feeling the rear is going to slide around on you when cornering on wet pavement at higher speeds. You may also find some wheel spin when accelerating from a stop.
In addition, traction in winter driving conditions is poor on this tire. Braking and acceleration are ok in lighter amounts of snow, but when it comes to deep snow, slush, hard-packed snow and ice, the tire struggles for grip. Sure, it’s a common issue for most all-season tires, but it stands out more on this model than it should and is something to keep in mind if you find yourself faced with a lot of winter driving.
Overall, the G051 ranks in the lower half of this class. We would recommend going with the Yokohama YK-HTX as a better tire, or other models like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and General Grabber HTS60.

Warranty
The G051 comes with a 5-year or 60,000 mile tread warranty. A first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on the tire’s uniformity is also included.
Materials and workmanship are covered for 5-years and include free first year or first 2/32 inch of wear tire replacement. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
Yokohama provides a 30-day test drive where you can exchange or refund the tire in the event you are not completely satisfied.

never submitted a review.. but I will this time.. oh, and nothing mechanical is/was wrong with the vehicle..
as an experienced driver licensed to operated many different vehicles, owned trucks for many years, including this one – these have to be the worst, or second worst (mastercraft for 2 days and ripped them off) tires ever.. I wouldn’t give you 50.00 each brand new..
from the start, one will notice that they are very ‘hard’, transmitting just about every imperfection in the road surface.. sluggish handling thru cornering – presenting a rougher ride.. in the rain, they will break away from the surface easily – I know it’s a heavier vehicle, but 35 on an exit and one can feel the beginning of 4 wheel slide.. not what one should expect for any realistic money spent – maybe on used bald tires, but not new and praised tires.. and keep this in mind – for the first few weeks, until worn in, they exhibit left-to-right wandering down the road – kind of like a boat at 50+ – a constant correcting to stay in the lane.. after approx. a month it settled in..
NOW – for snow – in 1/2″ of coverage – these tires suck bad.. heavy slipping under easy acceleration, the front end simply slipped thru the corners – continuing straight until it caught – at 10-15 mph.. and FORGET ABOUT STOPPING – at 20mph approaching a stop sign it took over 100-120ft before it slowed to 5mph – right thru and luckily the approaching vehicle had better equipment.. cautiously I managed thru that day – not what I would expect for roughly 1000k.. onto the next 3 storms – 3″ and 8″ and 11″.. the same results, and the deeper the snow, the less mobile you will be..
I’ve had muscle cars with over 400 hp, racing clutches and tight gears and still had far better traction and control – and this truck is 4 wheel drive..
I have consistently used goodyear sra’s on this truck (and previous trucks + wrangler at’s) – 3 sets prior, with zero issues..
DON’T BUY THESE – THERE ARE FAR BETTER ALTERNATIVES
Just about got killed this weekend outside of Alexandria Louisiana on I-49 with severe hydroplaning on NEW Geolander H/T tires. Never have seen anything like these tires on an F150. Lucky to be alive. Will be replacing these VERY soon! Going about 70 mph in light rain. Lucky to be alive. Thought the truck was going to hit both side rails and flip. Happened going south and again returning north. Very scary…. thought I was done.
