Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 Tire Review & Rating

With some of the latest racing-derived features, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 sports uncompromising traction and handling to go with quality riding comfort. Designed for performance coupes and sedans, the F1 Asymmetric 2 summer high performance tire greatly improves on its original predecessor.

The tread compound that Goodyear uses on this tire features the company’s race traction resins to enhance dry surface traction and cornering power. Steering response and control are increased due to the unique polymers and lightweight construction that is used in the tread design which reduces unsprung mass.

Wet surface handling is improved through the use of high surface silica and four circumferential grooves that evacuate water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. This is arguably the best tire on the market when it comes to traction on wet pavement. Other driver reviews further back that up. 

One area you will quickly notice better performance in is with braking capabilities. Goodyear’s ActiveBraking Technology adds 3-D tread elements that shortens stopping distances on both dry or wet roads. Outside road noise is minimal on the Asymmetric 2 due to the advanced tread block pattern that is computer optimized.

Inside the tread you will find two steel belts with a spirally wrapped polyamide cord for reinforcement. The result is increased strength and stability at higher speeds, as well as a better overall ride quality. Sizes from 17-20 inches are available, and the tires feature a Y-speed rating.

Overall Thoughts

We can honestly say that the new F1 Asymmetric 2 is a very big improvement over its predecessor, which isn’t a bad tire in its own right. Dry traction is very good, but this tire’s wet handling is even more impressive. We believe there is no better summer high performance tire when it comes to wet grip. Not Michelin, Continental or anyone. Braking performance is well above average and exceeds expectations.

Steering is quick and responsive as you would expect, and the overall ride quality is somewhat surprisingly good. The one area that this tire falls short in would be its treadlife. We’ve heard this from several drivers in reviews as well. The tread wears quicker than many feel it should, although some of that might be attributed to being pushed to the limits more often than not.

Overall, Goodyear has put out a very good tire in the Asymmetric 2. The value for the money and performance level is far above average. We rank it highly among other models in this category.

Warranty

Goodyear provides a limited tread life warranty on the Asymmetric 2. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for 6-months or the first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and call for free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

Goodyear also includes their 30-Day Test Drive guarantee in which you can exchange them for another Goodyear model if you are not completely satisfied. This tire also comes with a 2-year roadside warranty.
