Falken Azenis PT722 AS Plus Tire Review & Rating

The Falken Azenis PT722 AS Plus is the company’s second generation model of arguably their biggest selling high performance touring tire. Designed primarily for luxury coupe and sedan owners, it comes with a wide range of features including a unique rib groove, newly-developed wider steel belts and a high density casing ply.

Longer lateral grooves and a deeper tread depth enhance handling stability, especially when driving on wet road surfaces. Hydroplaning is greatly reduced and the depth of the tread also ensures maximum longevity when it comes to tread life. The tire’s silica tread compound also contributes to traction on both dry and wet pavement.

The tread pattern itself is asymmetrical; helping to provide a smoother, more comfortable ride and unique handling characteristics. A treadwear indicator has been incorporated into the tire’s design, allowing you to determine the best rotation timing. This again helps to increase the tire’s longevity and mileage capabilities.

Newly developed wide steel belts offer more strength than standard cords and this leads to better performance and wear in comparison. There are a number of different sizes to choose from ranging from 17-20 inches, and speed ratings are available in either V or W. Falken also includes a 75K tread warranty on this model.

Pros

  • Dry traction and handling
  • Ride comfort
  • Treadlife

Cons

  • Boost in wet and winter grip

Overall Thoughts

Driving on the Falken PT722 AS Plus is a pleasant experience in good weather. In rainy weather, or when the roads become covered with snow/ice, things could be better.

We certainly like the dry traction and handling stability this tire delivers. It’s sure-footed when cornering and provides very responsive steering. Ride comfort, as well as treadlife, is also very good with this tire.

The problem seems to come in wet/snow conditions. We’ve heard this from a few drivers who mention losing traction and having more than normal difficulty braking and accelerating. To be fair though we’ve also heard others praising this tire and claiming that it handles very well on wet roads. Obviously, much is going to depend on your own personal driving habits, but we want to be sure and mention this.

Overall, unless you live in a very wet climate or one that sees much higher than normal amounts of rough winter weather, this is a tire that should deliver solid performance for you. An added plus is the lower cost when compared to other comparable bigger name brands in this class.
