Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position Tire Review & Rating

Taking maximum performance summer driving to a higher level, the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tire utilizes the latest in tire technology and partnerships with several of the world’s finest auto makers to produce an ultra-high performance tire for drivers of sport coupes, sedans and other luxury sports cars.

Similar to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, this tire eats up hard corners and provides incredible handling and steering response. A silica enhanced tread compound and advanced asymmetric tread pattern combine with an interlocking center rib and larger outboard tread blocks to increase dry surface cornering grip.

Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position Tire Review

Wet traction pe formance is enhanced through the tire’s added lateral grooves and angled tread blocks. Road noise is greatly reduced through another separate circumferential rib near the inside shoulder of the tire.

Inside the tread you will find two steel belts that are wrapped with a nylon and aramid cord for added strength at higher speeds, as well as a more comfortable ride. Bridgestone offers sizes ranging from 16-20 inches, and all of them carry a Y-speed rating.

Overall Thoughts

Driving on Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires should be a lot of fun for those who enjoy more “spirited driving”. The tires stick like glue in the corners, are very responsive and ride more comfortably than you might think.

Although we still feel the Michelin Pilot Super Sport has a slight edge in the race for the number one spot in a summer performance driving tire, this model is right there among the leaders in this category. You shouldn’t be disappointed with either one. Highly recommended.

  1. I’ve had these tires on my ’08 S2000 for about 5 yrs. They replaced the OEM Potenza RE050s. These tires have performed exceptionally well and never leave me in doubt as to their performance capabilities. Added to the fine performance quality of the S2000 the addition of the S04s takes everything to the next level. Something to note is their quiet ride for a UHP tire. Well worth the money

  2. If you are a daily driver, and not someone looking to grip a corner hard or hard accelerate or hard decelerate, you should not be looking at this tire. If you are Mr. or Mrs. economy, then you should be looking for a touring or all season tire. But this also means that if you have a car that can do any of the above three things, you will lose grip. I hate when someone buys a corvette then exasperates on how expensive everything is. They buy cheap tires then complain when they get in an accident because the tire did not hold the road. Either buy a cheap car and drive at regular speed that the car can handle or buy a sports car and know that it will be EXPENSIVE to maintain, including oils, parts, brakes and tires. The most expensive parts that everyone forgets about are the brakes and the tires as they wear fast, but that is how you accelerate and decelerate fast.

  3. I Agree with Cindy, this is the second pair of 285/30R-19 BRIDGESTONE POTENZA S-04 POLE POSITION XL that have lasted 10,000 miles before needing to be replaced. Will never purchase again, I am going back to Michelins.

  4. Cindy…They are not crappy Tires. They do exactly what they are suppose to do when Bought for a Car Driven in the Summer Onl. they have a High Wear Rate becasue that is what they have to have to hold the road in both WET and DRY conditions. You simply didn’t do your researc h and had no clue what you were buying or why ?

  5. DO NOT BUY THIS TIRE UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH EXPECTED USE TO BE ONE SUMMER!!!! At 20,00 miles and under 2 years I need new tires. Called Bridgestone and 2 diff people told me they are summer tires ONLY. You use them in the summer and put them up. They don’t know how many summers you are supposed to get, because there is no warranty. Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life ! This is a crappy tire and a more than crappy zero back up on it! There are so many other tires to buy on the market, do not buy those tires!
