Antares Ingens A1 Tire Review & Rating

The Antares Ingens A1 is an affordable, all-season high-performance tire that is designed to provide the traction, handling and cornering grip required when you’re traveling on the road. Built for a wide range of coupe, sedan and minivan owners, the Ingens A1 also features a lower cost that is particularly appealing to budget-minded drivers.

Anatres uses a high quality all-season tread compound that sports open grooves and a unique siping pattern around the tread. The results are a tire that handles well and provides quicker steering response and better overall feel for the road. We’ve heard this mentioned time and again by other drivers in reviews as well.

Antares Ingens A1 Tire Review

Thanks to the larger circumferential grooves on this tire, water is evacuated quicker for enhanced wet traction, while also reducing the likelihood of hydroplaning on wet streets. The added sipes aid in traction on light snow covered roads, however, this is not a strength for this model as you might imagine.

Antares offers a large number of 13-19 inch sizes, with T, H, V and W-speed ratings available. A 40K mile warranty is provided by the manufacturer.

Pros

  • Dry traction and handling
  • Steering responsiveness and cornering stability
  • Smooth and comfortable ride without added noise
  • Good value for the lower cost

Cons

  • Poor traction and handling on snow and ice
  • High speed handling on wet surfaces

Overall Thoughts

The Antares Ingens A1 tire is an affordable option for car and minivan owners who want a tire that provides good dry traction, added comfort and sporty handling on the road. While the lower price point is a major driver of sales for this model, its performance is solid for the most part.

Traction and handling on dry pavement is a plus on this tire. It provides a good feel for the road and the ride is smooth and comfortable in most situations. Road noise is less than expected and among some of the better tires in this class. In addition, treadwear is very good and Antares includes a 40K mile tread warranty.

On the other hand, there are a few areas that could be improved. Traction and braking on deeper snow and ice is problematic. However, is it really a surprise? This is an all-season tire and not one dedicated to winter performance. We would like to see a bit more traction on wet surfaces at higher speeds, especially at the limits. This is not going to be a concern for most drivers, but more spirited owners may be looking for better traction.

Overall, while not a perfect tire by any means, the Ingens A1 has a number of good things going for it. While not up to the performance levels of a Continental DWS06 or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus, it holds its own in many key areas. As a budget-priced tire, this one is better than most.

  1. I just got the tires put on the F150 Lariat! (275/55/20) ! I just hope the tires are great!
They look awesome for the price ! I guess time will tell????

  2. These tires are garbage. Get what you pay for. Bought these April 2018 and I have dry rotting and cracking and in danger of separating. Walmart will not warranty them. No way to warranty them through the manufacturer.

  3. I have these tire on a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L GS for over three years and 40k KMS and they have been great in all kind of weather and thread wear is normal. I think they are designed for lighter cars. I live on the west coast of Canada so the weather here is not that extreme but we do get a lot of rain 🙂

  4. Almost went into the ditch on the first day of light/ melting snow,
Going 20km under the posted limit of 90km in a straight line

Lol okay for summer but god help you in the winter/(rain at high speed) if you have these and don’t get your winters on quick

  5. I bought a CPO VW Golf TDI that has these tires as standard, and overall I concur with many of the reviews here, they’re acceptable for what they are, an inexpensive “performance” tire, but they do have some fairly major drawbacks…

1; treadlife is utter crap, but to be expected at this price point, it’s an inexpensive Chinese manufactured tire, as long as they’re not square or polygonal, they should at least get you through a spring-fall driving season

2; grip is quite good (probably due to the softer, faster wearing compound, it’s a trade off here, folks) for such an affordable tire, there’s a relatively tight curved off-ramp in my area that’s very fun at speed, my benchmark cornering speed before typical tires start protesting is around 40 MPH, these tires only start protesting around 50-55MPH, so cornering grip is good (also probably why mine are wearing so fast 😉 you can’t escape the laws of physics….

Rain performance ranges from average to mediocre to terrifying, depending on how much water is on the road, the wetter the road, the more schizophrenic they become, wet traction is clearly an afterthought on these tires, but look at the tread pattern, it’s to be expected, they’re basically grooved slicks…

Snow and ice? don’t make me laugh!, not even going to try them in the snow, if they suck as much as they do in the *rain*, there’s no way in hell i’m trusting them in the snow, they will be replaced with a good set of snow tires as soon as possible

overall, theyre an acceptable dry conditions summer tire, nothing more, don’t expect super performance tire levels of performance from them or you’ll be sadly disappointed, they’re inexpensive three season tires that may last you one to two seasons at most, that won’t break the bank, nothing more

go in with low to no expectations and you may find their performance acceptable, expect Goodyear Eagle GT or high end Michelin performance and you’ll be sadly disappointed

  6. I run 225/60R18 100v Antare Ingens A1 on my Chrysler Intrepid and I love them! They visually are a very attractive tire. Overall performance is great. Road noise is a minimum. No issues with these tires other than the fact that they are done after 10,000km. Fortunately just the drive wheels wear out fast so I don’t bother rotating and just get 2 new tires when I need. Will continue to use these tires.

  7. Just purchased a car that had these tires, they have about 3,500 miles on them. Driving on highway and back tire blows out, the inner side wall just came apart. Almost lost total control of car. Then after reading reviews people have commented On week sidewall. Debating to buy one more tire or together three or get four new tires of another brand just tires

    1. Hello Jamie. Sorry to hear about your experience. In this case, we would recommend that you choose another set of tires. Go through our website so that you can easily decide which ones to get. Hope this helps.

  8. I just bought a used car with three Antares and a Goodyear. I replaced the Goodyear with another Antares and I have been satisfied so far. Cornering is solid and I haven’t noticed any undue noise even with the top down. It remains to be seen if I’ll replace them with another set or go with Contis or Michelin. The price is certainly right compared to the other two.

  9. My wife bought 4 new ANTARES INGENS A/S 185/65R15H. I rotate them with every oil change (5K miles). She has less than 16K miles on these and they are practically worn out. My recommendation is buy something else, these tires are crap!

    1. Hey John. Really sorry your wife had such a bad experience with these tires. The Antares Ingens A1 Tires are popular for delivering a good value. I’m going to look into this issue and update the review if need be, thanks for sharing man!

  10. These were absolutely terrible. I wouldn’t even recommend them for a car going to the demolition derby or wrecking yard. The noise is absolutely unbearable and mind numbing. Even at slow speeds under 10 mph you can hear the grumbling and warble of these tires. Second, they give a vibration in the steering at all speeds. I had them rebalanced, rotated, said a prayer, a sacrifice to the tire God’s and nothing would stop the noise or vibration.

I changed all 4 wheel bearings in hopes that they were the culprit bit nope, it’s definitely the tires. I had them changed out before they even reached 10k miles. Buy nice or buy twice has never been so blatant.

    1. Hi Jonathan
The Ingens A1 is an economical tire and a majority of buyers complain that affordable designs are either very noisy or start producing vibrations after a few thousand miles. We’d like to refer you to our Top 10 Quietest Tires for 2019 so you can choose from a selection of tires that ride quiet.

  11. I purchased a used 2013 Passat with 2 brand new Anatares Ingens A1 and decided to get 2 more to not have issues with different brands and because the remaining 2 were pretty worn. I was hesitant since I normally purchase premium tires.
First, I agree with the editors comments. I was surprised at the low noise, dry handling and even the look of the tire.
    Gas mileage hasn’t suffered.
Pros: Good value for the price for the reasons mentioned above
Cons: One snow storm with 1-2 inches of snow and not impressed at all. Depending on the next storm I may have to get snow tires which would negate the price advantage.

    1. Hey, yes I agree with you as well. Their snow handling is not that good but the tires are great for their
      cost.

  12. These sucked from jump. Put on a 2010 fusion havent lasted 30k and almost on the wear indicators. Now its loke a boat planing out when u go over the highway overpass as front end is up n swaggers left n right dangerously. Only been on since may of 2018. In sept 2018 theyre horribly worn n ride harsh n rough. Time to spend money on real tires.but shit at 100 atire or more still wear out. Doesnt help that most americas roads are trash this year. Right?? Potholes everywhere now probably broke belts in the tires…..ufb!

  13. I was a bit skeptical when we bought our antares ingens but man was I ever wrong. Tires been working great, wearing well and easy on the pocket. Very pleased.

  14. Beautiful tire that has excellent handling and low noise in cabin. Just installed on Fiat 500 Sport and it rides way nice according to my mechanic who did the alignment. Received a C rating for wet traction and stability so it rates well with higher priced tires. UTOG is 500 AA rating, so you’d be hard pressed to find a better tire at this price point. Highly satisfied with ride and performance so far.

    1. I purchased these tires from Wal-Mart in Jan 2019. I purchased because of price and some reviews. I try to have my own opinion on some products I buy. Well I SHOULD HAVE LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS. These tires are the worst!!! TREAD wear is horrible and won’t last for 10k miles. Wheel shake is terrible, tire is dry rotting, rear tire is showing wire wear. I’ve had several alignment and still no good. I wish i could get my Money back!!!!!!
