AdvanSport V105 Tire: Review & Rating

The Advan Sport V105 is anUltra-High-Performance Summer Tireby Yokohama engineered specifically for Passenger Cars. It’s a successor of Advan V103, which was a widely popular and the OE choice of many vehicles including the Bentley Continental GT, Porsche 911, and Porsche Cayenne. Therefore, with the V103 being the benchmark, Yokohama’s engineers worked tirelessly to see to it that the replacement V105 is better regarding raw grip as well as perceptive sportiness.

The results were magnificent!

When Yokohama compared the latest V105 against the established V103, the former eclipsed the latter in every category. V105 offers about 11% better wet-stability, 15% improved wet-braking, 4.6% lighter weight, 15% quieter ride, and 5% better dry braking. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the AdvanSport V105 extends an unparalleled driving experience. This is because the variable pitch tread minimizes pattern noise to ensure a comfortably quiet ride.

Also, the broader tread blocks on the outer of the tread increase dry performance while the raised groove area on the inward portion optimizes wet performance.

Moreover, Yokohama also compared the V105 against its predecessor on identical BMW 3 Series, resulting in a clear advantage for V105. Albeit the turn-in was marginally sharper, the real difference shone itself at higher speeds, where the dry stability was far greater than the V103,and it responded much better to steering inputs. Apart from improved stability, the feedback was also much higher, enabling you to toy with your car on the limit which wasn’t available with V103.

Performance

The Yokohama AdvanSport V105 is a Max Performance Summer Tire crafted for motorists of high-powered sports vehicles, performance sedans, and sporty coupes. The model is built with technology nourished at Germany’s Nurburgring Circuit, which is one of the most grueling race/test tracks in the world. V105 blends enhanced agility and driving comfort to offer a smoother ride compared to its predecessor by deploying precision-tuned structures and materials. However, like all summer tires, the Sport V105 is not meant to be driven in almost-freezing temperatures, on ice or through the snow.

Yokohama’s latest offering molds an Orange Oil augmented tread compound and Microsilica to assist the tread rubber stay pliable to maximize tire grip and adhesion. The compound is shaped into an asymmetric tread design in which circumferential ribs and broad outboard shoulder-blocks work in harmony to promote dry handling and traction. Moreover, asymmetrical lateral notches and changeable width circumferential grooves help repress noise and encourage water flow via the footprint to defy hydroplaning.

Furthermore, the V105’s internal structure has two inflexible steel belts strengthened by spirally wound clincher-built nylon over the tread with three layers shielding the belt edges in the shoulders to blend responsive handling and high-speed durability. Yokohama’s new Matrix Body-Ply Structure technology boasts a rayon body-ply which is slanted in the sidewalls to sustain lateral rigidity while minimizing tire weight to provide more precise handling riding comfort.

It should be stated that Yokohama uses its BluEarth branding to discover ecologically friendly tires that are engineered to offer environmental solutions to motorists and their vehicles. Furthermore, specific sizes harnessing BluEarth technology are recognized on the tire’s Specs and Sizes tab.
