Yokohama Advan A13C Tire Review & Rating

The Yokohama Advan A13C high-performance summer tire is mainly used as original equipment on the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution models. Built with an eye toward traction and cornering on dry pavement, this tire has been designed to compete with the best tires in this class.

Yokohama uses a special summer tread compound in the A13C that is matched up with an asymmetric tread pattern. The tread pattern features wide inner and outer tread blocks along with a continuous center rib that combine to deliver lightning fast steering response and enhanced cornering grip. In fact, cornering grip is incredible throughout the speed range and simply does not disappoint.

Three large circumferential grooves are designed to aid in channeling away water on wet pavement and reducing the risk of hydroplaning at higher speeds. Unfortunately, this is not a strong point for the A13C.

Inside the tire, Yokohama uses two steel belts and spirally wrapped nylon reinforcement for increased strength and durability. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Pros

  • Exceptional dry traction
  • Sticky cornering grip
  • Precise steering

Cons

  • Poor wet traction
  • Short treadlife
  • Cost

Overall Thoughts

We find the Yokohama A13C to be one of those tires that you really want to like due to the performance it delivers in most areas, but then it falls off badly in some other areas that you wish it didn’t. This is a tire that is in beast-mode on dry road surfaces. Traction and handling on the street or track is on par with some of the best tires in its class. That’s the same thing other owners of this tire mention as well in their reviews.

On the other hand, traction on wet streets is nearly non-existent. It forces you to slow down to a crawl when cornering, which is not what you’ll find on other top models. In addition, treadlife is shorter than expected, especially when this tire is pushed. We’ve heard from many drivers who have gotten only 10K-15K miles from the tread. That may not be too bad if the tires didn’t cost so much.

Overall if you do most of your driving on dry pavement, this is a solid option in high-performance tires. However, if you drive on wet pavement at times there are better options available. You might want to consider moving up to the Yokohama AD08 R instead of the A13C for higher performance and a little more treadwear.
