Toyo Open Country Q/T Tire Review & Rating

The Toyo Open Country Q/T is an all-season touring tire that focuses on providing excellent traction, stability, handling and long tread life. Built to fit a wide range of CUV’s and SUV’s, this good-looking tire also includes advanced features that result in a much smoother, comfortable and quieter ride, hence the “quiet tire” name.

Sporting an all-season tread compound and deeper than average tread depth, the Toyo Open Country Q/T is manufactured to promote more even tread wear and a longer lasting tread life. These tread features also result in much better traction, grip, fuel efficiency, braking, cornering and handling in dry and wet conditions, as well as on light snow.

Toyo Open Country Q/T Tire Review

For CUV and SUV owners who need a tire that performs in wet conditions, this all-season tire has four circumferential grooves in its tread along with open lateral slits that evacuate water. These features lead to better traction and performance in challenging situations while reducing the risk of hydroplaning.

Toyo’s unique Silent Wall Technology creates a much quieter environment and a comfortable ride quality. It’s an area that this particular tire rates well in and one mentioned by other drivers in reviews as well.

Toyo offers a range of 16-22 inch sizes that come with either a T, H or V-speed rating. A 65K mile treadwear warranty is included on all sizes.

Pros

  • Reliable dry traction and handling
  • Grips well on wet pavement
  • Comfortable ride that is quiet over most pavement surfaces
  • Shows early signs of good treadlife

Cons

  • Traction in deep snow and ice

Overall Thoughts

The Toyo Open Country Q/T ticks most of the boxes when it comes to the requirements of a modern all-season touring tire for crossovers and SUV’s. The fact that this is a relatively new tire means it’s difficult to assess just how good treadlife will be, but initial reports are showing positive results.

Dry and wet traction, along with handling and cornering stability, is very good. The ride is quiet and comfortable. We feel it’s among the better tires in this class for ride comfort, although not up to the levels found on the Michelin Premier LTX.

Our only real concern with the Toyo QT is its performance in deeper snow and on ice/hard pack. However, this is common for most all-season tires.

Overall, the Toyo Open Country Q/T is a welcome addition to the Open Country line of crossover, SUV and light truck tires. It delivers impressive performance for the most part and ranks in the upper half of its class.

  1. I have a set of these on my 2017 Dodge Durango AWD, 255/55R20. I don’t know how many miles are on them, as they were on the truck when I bought it. They’re very quiet, and have really good traction on wet and dry pavement. I’d probably buy another set.
