Prodigy H/T Tire Review & Rating

If you are on a budget and in need of a good all-season radial for your SUV or light duty pickup, the Prodigy H/T is a model that is designed with you in mind. Built by Yokohama, this tire has the performance and value that you usually only find in tires costing much more, and we say that in all seriousness.

The all-season tread design features jointless nylon cap covers which make tire contact with the road much more consistent and smooth. It adds more stability and improves overall handling on dry surfaces.

Added circumferential grooves and unique siping increase wet or snow covered road traction and grip. The grooves help expel more water from under the tread, resulting in greater hydroplane resistance and increased confidence for you behind the wheel, which is a plus on this tire and one that has been mentioned in many driver reviews as well.

Road noise is eliminated by Prodigy’s variable pitch tread elements. These elements reduce the harmonic noise and make for a more quiet and enjoyable ride.

Inside the tire are two steel belts that add strength and durability to the tire, as well as a longer tread life. That is evidenced by the 35,000 mile tread warranty included with the H/T.

Pros

  • Excellent dry and wet surface traction and handling
  • Ride is smooth and very quiet
  • Long tread life
  • Value for the money is outstanding

Cons

  • Would like to see additional sizes added
  • Tire can be hard to find in stores

Overall Thoughts

As a standard highway all-season tire, the Prodigy H/T stands as one of the better choices in its class, regardless of price. The comfortable ride and year-round handling and traction are surprisingly good. Even better is that the tires are economically priced to fit those on a tight budget. Expect a long treadlife out of this tire, which is confirmed by other tire owners as well.

Overall, this tire is highly recommended for any driver looking for a good all-season truck/SUV tire at an affordable cost.

  1. These do not have “Long tread life”. It’s only 35,000 miles. Discount Tire failed to tell me that what I bought them (and I failed to ask). They also quickly crack, and end up taking a lot of wheel weights to balance.
They are cheap and fairly quiet though.

  2. Would love to be able to post a pic on this reviewed. Tires are less than a year old and are already cracked all the way through. The definition of Chinese product by excellence, looks good but doesn’t age well at all and highly unsafe. Hard rubber makes them wear very little for sure… Install at your own risk

    1. Hello Nicolas! As per our research, Prodigy H/T tires have long tread life. Can you share some more details with us?

  3. I bought the prodigy tire two years ago. Very happy with them. Went to replace them and was told they had been discontinued. Very upset about that!

  4. I got a set for my wife’s Santa Fe last night. Our local Discount Tire Manager Clay gave me VIP service for a great price even though he was getting slammed later in the day.
After reading these reviews and doing an overnighter I’m confident I came out ahead especially with full lifetime warranty on these Prodigies. These guys always deliver on price, quality service and efficiency on a regular basis.
They do qualify for five stars and just to make it clearer I’ll give them the Sun and the Moon to go with it.

  5. Bought these tires for my hyundai Entourage minivan, made the ride quieter and i think even improved gas milage a little! For 70 dollars a tire can not beat them! also love discount tire throwing in road hazard for free, other places charge 8-12 per tires.

  6. These tires are excellent for drivers that don’t go too deep into the woods in their 4×4 trucks. My Silverado rides smooth as silk with 62,000 miles on it. Quiet ride indeed and for the money spent it was the best deal around for over 50 miles. No complaints here. Quality tires at a great reduced price.

  7. I have 6000mi on these tires (2001 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD) the wear so far is outstanding. Discount Tire just did the rotation. Ride and handling is very good. I am very pleased with the wet weather traction along with the performance in snowy/slushy roads. A very good value for the money.

  8. Bought these from Discount Tire as a replacement on my Honda Pilot and couldn’t be more pleased. Not only was the service first class, but the these tires are very good! I’ve bought a lot of tires over the years and these Prodigys ride like more expensive Michelin’s.

I was also surprised at how super quiet they are on the road. Have just over 37,000 miles on them and still have nearly half the tread left. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking to save some money and still get a great tire.
