SuperCargo ST Radial Trailer Tire Review & Rating

The SuperCargo ST Radial tire is built to be a durable, radial trailer tire that provides the performance required for all types of trailers. These wear-resistant tires have been manufactured using advanced processes that allow them to carry heavier loads and to operate in a much smoother, quieter manner than many other affordable trailer tires.

There tread pattern and tightly packed shoulder elements add to dry and wet traction, while the tires’ circumferential grooves expel water from the tread for increased wet traction on the highway. This pattern is also effective in reducing road noise. Their stability and wear resistance is also enhanced by the tread block elements which are another important feature of these trailer tires.

Supercargo ST Radial trailer tires are available with C, D or E load ratings, and come in a range of 13-16 inch sizes. A limited tread warranty is provided by the manufacturer.

Pros

  • Good dry and wet traction
  • Stability at higher speeds on the highway
  • Low price

Cons

  • Some have reported failure issues
  • Not the best in winter conditions

Overall Thoughts

The SuperCargo ST Radial trailer tire is a relatively easy radial tire to install and it performs well in most conditions, but can struggle in the snow. They are affordable tires and there have been situations where the tread has worn down on these tires much quicker than other higher quality, more expensive tires such as Michelin’s.

Overall, for the lower cost and decent performance, we rank this model in the middle of the ST trailer tire class.

  1. Yep, Same thing happened to me this weekend while towing my120k Plymouth Satellite in an enclosed trailer to a car show. Had a set of supercargo 225 75 15 E rated 10 ply’s come apart on me in the same manner looked like a retread peel. Tires only a year old with about 300 miles on them. Checked and set the pressure to 65 psi before I left and about 40 miles into a 300 mile trip one explodes. Thank god the trailer stayed straight and my cara nd truck were spared any real damage but this could have been worse. I’m replacing all of them as we speak.

  2. I just had a supercargo 225 75 15 d rated almost come apart like an old recap looked like part of the side collapsed and moved to top of tire roughest ride I ever had . Never exploded but almost jarred my truck and trailer apart

    1. Ouch! Never a good sign when read on experiences like yours. I wonder if the manufacturer is really going to do something about the failure issues that we keep hearing about.

  3. Exact same thing happened to me except i had three seperate blow outs on a 340 mile round trip. I bought four of them a year ago and traveled less than 200 miles previous to this last trip.

  4. I bought four of the 15″ 8 Ply Radials Load Range “D” for my 22′ “Haulin” Cargo Trailer to take my ’57 Chevy to car meets.
Inflated them at 65 psi for the first trip of 280 miles round trip. No problems. Over the course of two NY winters, I parked them on 3/4″ thick rubber mats to avoid them being on the ground, and covered them with tight fitting black covers to protect them from the sun. I drove the trailer less than 100 miles last summer.
Last week I loaded the trailer for another car meet near Pittsburg, Pa. a round trip distance of 475mi. Checked the PSi at 65# and left. One of them exploded about 60 miles North of Pittsburg on US I-79 South. I put on the spare in very dangerous conditions beside the highway, went to the meet, and bought a replacement spare (Goodyear)
Before leaving for home, I checked the PSI at 65 again, and headed north on I-79. 35 miles from home, again on I-79, another tire unbelievably exploded. Like the first tire, the entire tread had peeled off like one would expect from an old recap tire.
I replaced it with another Goodyear. Two SuperCargo tires still on the trailer. I won’t go anywhere else until they are replaced as well. Sometimes economical isn’t the way to go – if indeed you go at all.
