Sumitomo Touring LS Tire Review & Rating

The Touring LS from Sumitomo is engineered to provide all-season traction in dry, wet or even winter conditions, while also providing a comfortable ride and long lasting treadlife. Designed for drivers of coupes, sedans, crossovers and minivans, the LS is available in T, H and V-speed rated sizes.

With an advanced all-season carbon black tread compound and symmetric tread pattern, the LS uses its computer optimized design to increase year round traction. The tire’s shoulder blocks enhance dry or wet cornering traction on all types of road surfaces. A continuous center rib provides added steering response and braking stability, as well as a more quiet ride.

Four circumferential grooves channel away water in wet and slush covered road conditions, while reducing the risk of hydroplaning in rough weather. Added sipes around the tire provide biting edges that deliver additional traction and handling on snowy surfaces.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and Sumitomo’s Jointless Nylon Band technology that strengthens the tire and provides enhanced durability and treadlife. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort. Sumitomo includes up to an 85K mile tread warranty on this model, and is available in sizes ranging from 13-18 inches.

Pros

  • Excellent dry, wet and snow traction
  • Steering provides good feel
  • Comfortable riding tire
  • Long lasting treadlife and an outstanding warranty
  • Good value for the money

Cons

  • Would like to see a little less road noise

Overall Thoughts

The Touring LS offers surprisingly good traction on dry, wet or even snow covered road surfaces. Performance on the H and V-speed rated tires is very good among others in this class. The steering gives you good feedback, and the ride is really quite comfortable.

You’ll find a little road noise on this tire, but this isn’t a Michelin tire either, It’s really not all that bad. Expect a very good treadlife out of this tire, which Sumitomo backs up with one of the better tire warranties in the business. Overall, the performance and value the Touring LS provides makes it a nice value in touring all-season tires.

  1. I bought these tires Oct. 5th, 2017 and have only put 24,832 mi on this set of tire’s that should have a 70,000 tire tread life. I rotate, align, ck balance and air regularly. Just went to Tire Kingdom and was told it could not be plugged due to not enough tread. When asked how that could be all they said was it depends on your driving habits and the roads you drive. This tire was not cheap and I surely expected to get more than 24, 832 miles out of them. Tire Kingdom offered me nothing!! Extremely disappointed!! Would not buy these again!!

    1. 70,000 miles is the WARRANTY period, NOT the mileage that you will get out of tires. As a professional technician, it amazes me how people think they will get that kind of mileage out of a tire, when alignment, road conditions, vehicle conditions and problems, driving habits, etc are all highly variable.

  2. I don’t like these tires, and the warranty is garbage! I bought 4 tires 3 years ago, I was told these tires were worth the money… Wrong! I have been constantly taking the car back to have my tires checked. I was told I needed 4 new tires yesterday, I looked at my warranty it stated good for 70000 miles or 6 years. I got neither of these things. When I questioned Tire Kingdom, they said they would take 15.99 off the tire ! They lied about the tread, I took the car straight to Walmart, they checked the tread was not as bad as tire Kingdom stated. I called customer service and they said it was the tire manufacturing company that wouldn’t allow more of a discount on the warranty. Not impressed with the tires , your company,or tire Kingdom.!

  3. Put these tires on 80,000 miles ago… love them so much I just purchased them again. No balancing problems , no cupping problems only rotated them every 10,000 miles. Stiff tire equals great cornering. No uneven wear. Would recommend. 2014 Corolla

  4. Not impressed. Purchased 3 years ago and less than 30k miles later, 2 of them need replaced. Seems to be balancing issues. And while not conclusive, I began getting significantly less mpg after these were installed (no one can fine anything wrong with the engine). Would NOT try again.

  5. Tires are garbage. Constant balance problems and two tread separations in four years since new. Wet traction in turns is horrible.

  6. Just put these (Sumitomo Touring LSH, 235/65R17) on my 2008 Ford Edge.
Drove to Orlando and back put about 500 miles on them mostly freeway and I must say I was quite impressed with the noise level from these tires, very quiet.
They are a bit stiff on the corners but pretty much what you would expect from an All Season tire.
As far as wet roads go, I only experience a little rain so no stopping tests were done on wet surface.
