Sumic GT-A Tire Review & Rating

For drivers on a tight budget, the Sumic GT-A was built with you in mind. Made for use on all types of coupes, sedans and smaller crossovers, the GT-A has quite a bit more going on than just a lower price though.

An all-season higher performance tread compound combines with a symmetric 4-rib tread pattern that gives the tire increased dry traction and enhanced handling response. In our opinion, handling response and cornering grip is as good as you might find on many of today’s top UHP models. Dry/wet braking is also very good for this tire.

Sumic GT-A Tire Review

Circumferential grooves and extended lateral grooves provide for traction on wet pavement and help in reducing the risks of hydroplaning. We’ve heard many drivers speak of very good wet grip, which is often a big downfall with low cost tires. Winter traction is decent in smaller amounts of snow due in part to the tire’s sipes, but when you get heavy wet snow or any ice, you are going to likely encounter problems.

Sumic GT-A tires offer pretty good ride comfort for the style of tire they are, and road noise is not as pronounced at lower speeds. That said, we have heard other drivers mention that the road noise gets louder when driving at higher speeds on the highway, which is not really surprising.

Inside the tread are dual steel belts that add more strength and durability to the tread. Sumic offers sizes ranging from 13-17 inches, making this a nice option for older vehicles that run smaller sized tires. Speed ratings of S, T, H and V are also available. In addition, a 45K mile warranty is included.

Pros

  • Very good dry traction/handling/braking
  • Cornering stability
  • Value for the money is excellent

Cons

  • Winter traction/handling
  • Road noise at higher speeds

Overall Thoughts

It’s often easy to dismiss any tire that features as low a price point as this model as just another cheap tire. In most cases, you’d be right on in your assessment. However, the Sumic GT-A is one of the rare exceptions in this case.

The tire delivers well-balanced traction and handling in all but rough winter weather conditions. The ride is good for this tire, and treadlife has shown to be better than average. Yes, there is some extra road noise when driving at higher speeds, but it is not anything that would prevent us from recommending this model. If you’re looking for a whisper quiet ride you might want to put on a set of touring tires instead.

Overall, the price to quality ratio on this tire is one of the best on the market when it comes to higher performance all-season tires. When you combine the price with the comfort and drivability of the tire you get a winning combination. Simply stated… this is one of the better low-cost tires available today.

  1. Bought 4 new 2 years ago for my wifes 2015 Chevy Cruze 2LT 1.4T in 225/50/17R. The tires have a little road noise but function great in Michigan snow and ice during winter. We used to live way in the country on a dirt road that iced over in the winter and these tires handled it like a champ. These tires haven’t let us down. I would buy them again.

  2. Bought these due to price. Bought a used Audi A4, and it turned out 3 of the 4 tires were split on the sidewalls. Needed a cheap set of 4 as it is a “Quattro”. (AWD) Have been good all summer even in torrential rain. Hope the same holds true for the snowy season. I know the snow rating isn’t great, so I hope the AWD will compensate a bit for that.

  3. I am getting 4 of them today ! i hope to get what i paid for!! I will post another review after having them put on my Ford Focus.
