Sentury UHPT Tire Review & Rating

For drivers desiring to save money on an ultra-high performance summer tire for their pickup or SUV, the Sentury UHPT was created with that in mind and more. The UHPT has a number of features that are designed to increase the performance, reliability and treadlife of your vehicle.

A high performance tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern have been created to give this model more precise steering control, responsive handling on dry or wet pavement, and a ride that is more comfortable due to lower outside road noise.

Larger outer shoulder blocks combine with the tread design to provide increased handling and cornering grip at higher speeds. The tire’s center rib further aids in handling and steering response, while also helping to reduce braking distances.

Four circumferential grooves around the tire, along with added lateral grooves, help channel water away on wet road surfaces. This also reduces the risk of hydroplaning, while adding more stability.

Sentury has optimized the tread pitch sequence to help the UHPT deliver a quiet ride, which is something this tire does pretty well. This model is available in a range of 18-22 inch sizes, with speed ratings of V and W. A 40K mile treadlife warranty is also part of the package.

Overall Thoughts

As we said in our review of the UHP, which is similar in performance and pricing as the UHPT, this model fills a good spot in the ultra-high performance summer tire class. Its low price point makes it an attractive option if you’re on a tight budget, and the overall performance you’ll find here is not too bad. We’ve seen a lot worse from tires costing much more than this model.

The UHPT delivers very good dry traction, braking and handling. It features a stiffer sidewall that aids in cornering response, while the tread pattern provides better on-center feel. An optimized tread pitch helps in lowering road noise and improving ride comfort.

Naturally, this is far from the perfect tire. We would like to see some gains in overall wet traction, especially when pushed to its limits. Treadlife is an area that is really unknown at this point due to the tire only recently being released. We’ll update this when we know more.

For a truck or SUV UHP tire, the Sentury UHPT is a nice option if that is what your budget can afford. However, if your budget is a bit higher there are several other tires in this class that would make better options. That said, we give it a rank in the middle of this category.
