Pirelli P-Zero Tire Review & Rating

Whenever people start talking about high performance summer tires, Pirelli P-Zero tires are usually always mentioned in the discussion. For over 20 years now this tire remains a mainstay for owners of sports coupes, sedans and other sports cars. Why? Because Pirelli is continuously adding in new tire technology and making improvements to the tread compound and tire design.

The tread compound has been upgraded with new “nano-composites” that improve grip and provide added stability and steering response. The compound is molded into an asymmetric tread design that is both attractive and aggressive.

Pirelli P-Zero Tire Review

The tread features three longitudinal grooves, a wide circumferential groove and unique “S” sipes that combine to reduce the risk of hydroplaning on wet road surfaces, as well as give you added confidence when driving in nasty road conditions. The S sipes also help eliminate road noise, giving you a more quiet and comfortable ride.

Inside the tread are two steel belts that are reinforced with a much stronger polyamide cord ply to go along with nylon and aramid cord. The result is a more stable and stronger tread area that improves handling at higher speeds.

Pirelli has also come out with a run-flat version of the P-Zero since many drivers had been asking for one. Note: The P Zero is used as original equipment on high performance sports cars and sedans like the Mercedes S-Class AMG, Ferrari 599 GTB, Audi Quattro R8 and others.

Pros

  • Very good grip on both dry and wet surfaces
  • Steering response is excellent
  • Very low road noise
  • Riding comfort is above average

Cons

  • Tread life could be better

Overall Thoughts

The grip and performance of Pirelli P Zero tires is very good, and taking corners is enjoyable with this tire. The trade-off though is tread life. These tires tend to wear quicker than other models for those who enjoy more spirited driving, and for the money that can be disappointing.

That said, if you are a driver who takes it easier on the throttle and doesn’t light up the tires at every stoplight, you should enjoy a longer tread life and get a lot more out of them.

Warranty

Pirelli Tires does not have a mileage tread life warranty on the P-Zero. There is a one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on tire uniformity.

Materials and workmanship are guaranteed for the life of the tire and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Pirelli follows that up with a prorated amount for the remainder of the tire life down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

  1. I purchased a brand new Kia k5 2022 car on December 9th. 2021 When I test road the car the tires were quiet. after a 1000 miles the tires are making a high frequency hum noise. This car was checked out 3 times nothing is wrong with the barrings or other equimnet such as struts. Aligment is good and so is the balance. The car is a beautiful car but these tires ruined my experence of a brand new car. Ive had dealers, tire kingdom and discount tires check out these tires and they all say there is no visable wear so I can’t warrenty them. The advertisment even on this website that these are state quite tires, which is a total lie. If Perelli had any balls they would replace these tires to make a happy customer. they already have the money in their pocket and make a BS warrenty that state that perelli does not warrenty aganst exessive noise emmission. never again. These oem tires are so bad they don’t even warrenty them for mileage. Because of your service I will be buying either michilin, Bf goodrich, or yokohama tires such stupid corporate planning. because of the way I was treated I will never buy prelli again.

  2. The Pirelli P Zero tire is a really BAD choice for the high performance vehicle. They do not hold up for any amount of time or tread wear. This is a Horrible tire and will not last but maybe a year if lucky. I WILL never purchase this tire again in this lifetime. Buyer Beware.

  3. Subject: Warranty on P Zero tires
    Message: Hi
Just wrote your Corp office in Italy, but need an answer from local USA! Bought on 10/15/18, with 84754 miles! Today 109K miles with only 24246 my les and 2/32 left of thread on tires with 50K warranty!
Tires has been rotated and balanced every 4K miles while doing oil change. It will be interesting what your answer will be! My last tires were original equipment on my Audi Quattro A4 2011 till 84754 miles!
Need copies of service performed and purchase, please provide space for documentation!

    Answer by Corp:
Hello Rafael, thanks for reaching out and we are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied about your tire service life.
When it comes to tire service life, many factors such as vehicle platform, alignment, driving style, temperature variation and road conditions to which a tire is subjected throughout its life determine the life of a tire. Since service and conditions vary widely, accurately predicting the service life of any specific tire based on mileage or time is not possible. To get a better understanding regarding tire service life as it applies to your vehicle platform, we suggest you reach out to your Audi dealer to be advised regarding what they have been observing for tire service life with all brands of tires fitted to your Quattro vehicle platform that are worn to 2/32” of remaining tread. You might find that the tire service life you experienced is typical for your vehicle platform and tire size and in some cases dealers suggest tire replacement in the 5/32” range.
Original equipment tires are designed for high levels of grip, comfort and wet traction and the tires are specifically tuned to the suspension characteristics of your Audi according to vehicle manufacturer specifications and original equipment tires are not backed with mileage coverage, they are backed with workmanship and material coverage. Pirelli produces select replacement tire lines backed with mileage coverage and these products have different features and benefits and part numbers vs. the original equipment tires fitted to your Audi vehicle platform.
Our downloadable warranty with terms and conditions of coverage, a Tire Care and Service Guide, and how to initiate a warranty is available at http://www.us.pirelli.com. Our consumer affairs team can be reached by your Pirelli dealer by calling 800 747 3554 (option 2) between the hours of 8 AM to 6 PM Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday should they inspect your tires and have any questions regarding eligibility for coverage or warranty procedures as it is essential that your Pirelli dealer initiates a warranty claim for any tire suspected of a workmanship and materials anomaly.

    Kindest regards,

  4. I have Pirelli P-Zero on my S 90. I have been to the dealer ( Volvo dealer in Cockeysville MD) twice with a nail in the tire and they have told me that this brand of tire is unpatchable in other words every time I get a flat it cost me a new tire. I have taking the tire to a tire shop to be repaired but the patches never seem to last. I have tried to go to Pirelli web site to get more information but found little help. I just find it hard to believe that they make a tire that cannot be patched. I would like to get feed back from a Pirelli rep. The next flat I get will be last on a Pirelli, I will be replacing with Michelins.

  5. These tires are for the track not the streets.
To Alex if you got 12,500 miles out of your tires you are blessed, because I only got 7000 miles out of mine.
These run flat tires are the biggest con game in town, saving the dealers lots of money by not having to supply each vehicle with donuts any longer.
You would expect a run flat tire which malfluctions to at least take your vehicle another 25 to 50 miles further.
Take my word you will need a Tow, or risk damaging your vehicle by driving it when the your tire pressure reaches zero.
I shall be switching to 4 new Michelins on my next service date.

  6. Pirelli P-Zero run flats, are expensive and flat most the time, you can not run any quicker than 15 KM/H when flat.
Major big disappointment- have less than 12,500 miles on car and have already needed replace 5 tires.
Save the bucks and your aggravations, buy better tires 🙁
