Ohtsu AT4000 Tire Review & Rating

The Ohtsu AT4000, which is a part of the same company as Falken, is designed to provide basic all-terrain performance as well as predictable on-road traction and handling.

A tougher all-season, all-terrain tread compound is used on the AT4000 and features hard-rubber sidewalls to help protect against punctures, while the tire’s twin steel belts, high-tension polyester casing and nylon cap ply add more durability.

Ohtsu also incorporates a more aggressive tread block pattern that contains various sized blocks for better traction on or off road. Dynamic wave grooves further aid in delivering extra traction.

A phase-shifted random pitch tread sequence lowers road noise and increases ride quality on the highway. This is a noticeable reduction in noise that many drivers have commented on.

You’ll find a wide range of LT and P-Metric 15-20 inch sizes available and in load ranges up to an E.

Pros

  • Light all-terrain traction
  • Quiet ride on the highway
  • Good treadwear
  • Lower price point

Cons

  • Winter performance in deep snow and on ice
  • Not the best in deep mud or heavy off-road use

Overall Thoughts

There’s no doubt that you won’t mistake the AT4000 for a BFGoodrich Rugged Terrain or Goodyear Silent Armor among others when it comes to higher performance both on and off road, but this tire is not all that bad in itself. Even more satisfying to some will be the fact that you will also save yourself quite a bit of money in the process.

While not the best on snow and ice, or for driving on more rugged terrain, it is a tire that handles well in light off-road situations. It also delivers a surprisingly quiet ride on the highway and we have not heard complaints on treadwear from other drivers.

Overall, the Ohtsu AT4000 is a nice option for anyone on a tight budget and needing a basic all-terrain tire for occasional off-road use and regular daily driving.
