Nexen CP672 Tire Review & Rating

The Nexen CP672 high performance all-season tire is built to provide drivers with a comfortable and reliable driving experience year-round. Created for owners of sports cars, coupes and performance sedans, the CP672 is optimized for increased cornering and handling, as well as more responsive steering.

A number of features intended to achieve this goal are present, including design elements like a semi-dual continuous center rib, which helps maintain stability and provides added steering feel for higher speed handling, while also aiding in cornering and braking response. Reinforced shoulder blocks further add to cornering grip and stability throughout the speed range.

Nexen CP672 Tire Review

Four wide circumferential grooves reduce hydroplaning by channeling away water, which provides an added level of safety for driving on wet road surfaces.

Nexen engineers have also optimized the overall tread design through a 5 random pitch variation on this tire that reduces outside road noise and eliminates much of the annoying pattern noise that often happen on certain types of road surfaces.

The CP672 comes in a wide range of 14-18 inch sizes to go with H and V-speed ratings. Nexen also includes a 70,000 mile tread life warranty, which for a high performance all-season tire is longer than many.

Pros

  • Excellent handling on dry and wet pavement
  • Ride is comfortable for the most part

Cons

  • Poor performance in snow
  • A little more road noise than expected

Overall Thoughts

Nexen’s CP672 is a tire that does some things quite well, but has a few faults that stand out as well. The competition in the high-performance all-season class is fierce to say the least, and the CP672 unfortunately fails to break past being a mid to lower ranking performer.

While dry pavement traction, handling, and response is very good, the tire begins to lose performance in all other driving scenarios. Wet handling is acceptable but not great, and a considerable decrease in reliability is present when driving in snow, slush, or ice. This is absolutely not a tire to consider if you need a dependable, safe option for severe (or really even light) winter weather conditions.

Similarly mediocre is the tire’s tread life, which isn’t as poor as some other models we’ve seen, but isn’t notably any more long-lasting. Although that being the case, this is a model that is priced well below most other top HP offerings from big name tire makers.

The recurring theme for the CP672 is that overall, it’s an incredibly average model-if not slightly below average. It may be a nice option for use in short term scenarios or if you plan on selling the vehicle in the coming months. You’ll get decent performance while saving some money. But if your needs go beyond that, you could get much more bang for your buck elsewhere.
