Nexen N5000 Tire Review & Rating

Developed for drivers of sport coupes, sedans and sporty light trucks, the Nexen N5000 is built to deliver high performance all-season traction and handling. Its directional tread pattern is designed to provide not only better traction, but also confident cornering and increased ride quality.

An all-season tread compound combines with a wider and deeper directional groove pattern for increased dry or wet traction, as well as enhanced braking performance. The tire’s straight center rib block adds faster steering response and gives it a bit more stability at higher speeds.

Four circumferential grooves aid in evacuating water from under the tread on wet road surfaces and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. The tread design also provides added grip on light snow covered roads, although driving in deep snow or ice can be problematic at times.

Nexen has used its 5 variable pitch sequence technology on the N5000 which reduces road noise and improves ride quality. The curved groove edges also reduce vibration and promote more even treadwear. All in all this contributes to a tire that is quieter than you might expect for the low cost.

Inside the tread you’ll find two steel belted construction for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body helps with ride quality. Sizes are available from 14 to 18 inches, and speed ratings of H and V.

Overall Thoughts

The N5000 is basically the all-season version of the more sporty N3000 summer tire. They share a lot of the same features and both are priced to fit most any budget. We like the dry traction and steering response on the N5000, as well as the ride quality. No, it’s not a Michelin MXV4, but the ride is not that bad.

On the other hand, wet and winter traction and handling could be improved on. Despite its 420 treadwear rating, we would like to see a bit more treadlife from the tire. But considering its low cost it is better than many in this class. Overall, for the money the N5000 is not a bad choice in new tires.

Warranty

Nexen provides a 60,000 mile tread warranty on the N5000. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
