Nankang Toursport NS N605 Tire Review & Rating

Providing all-season traction and handling to go with a more quiet and comfortable ride is what Nankang has built the TourSport NS N605 to do. Designed for drivers of coupes, sedans and minivans, the N605 is engineered for year round performance and a longer treadlife.

The all-season tread compound sports an asymmetrical tread pattern and continuous center rib for enhanced dry surface handling and added cornering maneuverability.

Four wider circumferential grooves and multi-angled sipes around the tread increase traction and handling on wet pavement, as well as reduce the risk of hydroplaning. These angled sipes also provide a little extra grip on snow or slush covered roads, although this is not a strong suit for this model.

Road noise is reduced through the variable pitch tread sequence that Nankang uses on this model. The computer optimized tread pattern creates a more quiet riding tire that makes driving more enjoyable.

A wider tread contact patch has been used to not only enhance handling and braking, but to also prevent uneven and irregular tire wear. Reviews from other drivers have mentioned getting a long tread life out of this model.

Nankang has a range of 15-17 inch sizes available, and all sizes sport a V-speed rating. A 50K mile tread warranty is also included on this tire.

Pros

  • Very good traction and grip on dry and wet surfaces
  • Above average braking capabilities
  • Ride is comfortable and road noise is minimal
  • Long lasting treadwear gives good value for the money

Cons

  • Winter handling could be a little better

Overall Thoughts

The Nankang 605 does a lot of things very well for a higher performing touring all-season tire. Traction on both dry and wet surfaces exceeded our expectations. The tire provides good response and control. It corners quite well and delivers good stability and feel for the road.

As with most every all-season tire, traction and handling in winter weather is hit and miss. The biggest issues are in braking/acceleration on ice and hard-pack snow. That said, we have heard many reviews from other drivers that speak to decent performance in lighter amounts of snow and on slush covered streets.

The ride is quite comfortable and treadlife is ok on this model. It carries a 520 UTQG rating which should translate into getting 50-60K miles from the tread.

Overall, with its much lower price than many other competitor tires, (a set of 4-15 inch tires is around $180 total) this model not only provides nice year round performance, but it delivers solid value for the money as well.
