Michelin LTX A/S Tire Review & Rating

The LTX A/S from Michelin is used extensively as original equipment on many of today’s light duty, and even commercial trucks, vans and SUV’s, while also being a dependable replacement tire as well. With its smooth and comfortable ride, the LTX All-Season is also designed to provide confident year-round traction with a long lasting treadlife.

An all-season truck tread compound sports a symmetric five-rib tread pattern that provides all weather traction and handling, including light snow. The tire’s tread design also creates a more quiet and comfortable ride as well, which is a plus for this particular tire.

Michelin LTX A/S Tire Review

Circumferential grooves around the tire evacuate water from under the tire and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, while lateral grooves and sipes enhance wet traction and provide biting edges for added grip on snow.

Inside the tire you will find twin steel belts that add strength and durability to the tire. Michelin has three steel belts on models that are D and E load rated for even more strength. A polyester cord body further increases ride comfort and more even treadwear. This model is available in 17-18 inches.

Pros

  • Excellent dry and wet traction
  • Crisp steering response
  • Outstanding ride comfort and little to no road noise
  • Long lasting treadlife

Cons

  • Winter traction and handling could be better

Overall Thoughts

Although this model has been mainly used as original equipment over the years, it has also proven to be a nice replacement option as well. Dry and wet traction are both very good on this tire. Steering is crisp and cornering grip is above average. The tire remains stable throughout the speed range and leaves you feeling in complete control.

The biggest need for improvement would be in the area of traction on snow and ice. It gets a bit slippery on the ice, and the tread is not designed ideally for driving in deep snow. This has been the chief complaint from other drivers on this tire.

Ride comfort is like you would expect from any Michelin tire…smooth and comfortable. This model is one of the more comfortable riding tires in this class. Road noise is not an issue, and you can also expect a long lasting treadlife, with other drivers mentioning how good the lifespan is as well.

It’s worth noting that Michelin has been phasing out many sizes for this model since the release of the Defender LTX M/S.

Overall, while this tire delivers more than adequate dry/wet performance and ride comfort, we give it a rank in the middle of the all-season truck/SUV class. We would recommend going with the Michelin Defender LTX M/S instead of this model as the performance and comfort levels are much higher.
