Michelin Latitude Sport Tire Review & Rating

The Michelin Latitude Sport is made to deliver high performance summer traction and handling for today’s crossovers and sport utility vehicles. Used as original equipment on high-end vehicles like the Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, the Latitude Sport utilizes some of Michelin’s latest tire technology for world class performance.

Michelin uses the same hybrid silica and carbon black tread compound found on the Pilot Sport PS2 maximum performance summer tire for sports cars. It’s designed to provide two things… the highest level of dry and wet traction, along with glue like cornering grip.

Michelin Latitude Sport Tire Review

The tire’s larger outside shoulder blocks provide increased grip in the corners, while a continuous center rib adds stability and quicker steering response throughout the speed range. Wider circumferential grooves and notched lateral grooves enhance wet handling and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, something this tire does very well.

Inside the tire you will find two high-tensile steel belts with a nylon and aramid reinforcement for added strength and durability at higher speeds. This also increases handling capabilities and overall ride quality.

Sizes in this model are available from 18-21 inches along with V, W and Y-speed ratings. There is also a 20,000 mile tread warranty on this model, which is rare for tires in this class.

Pros

  • Outstanding dry and wet traction
  • Cornering grip is among the very best in this class
  • Quick steering response
  • Good ride comfort

Cons

  • Treadlife could be shorter than expected depending on driving style
  • Not a low cost tire

Overall Thoughts

Michelin has really created a winning tire in the Latitude Sport. Just like its twin, the Pilot Sport PS2, this tire provides some of the best traction and cornering grip on dry pavement that you’ll find in any truck/SUV tire offered today. It’s really something you have to experience yourself in order to get a better understanding of the feeling it provides.

Steering response is quick and delivers the kind of feel you would expect from a tire like this. It gives you the confidence you want at higher speeds. Ride comfort is good, and you may be surprised at how much quieter this tire is over comparable tires in this class.

Our only real problem area with this tire would be with treadwear. While it is not bad, it could be improved on. We’ve heard this from a few other drivers in reviews as well. Yes, much of this can be due in part to how spirited you drive, but some of this issue goes beyond that. So keep that in mind. Finally, the cost is not cheap for this model. That said, like most anything in life, you get what you pay for, especially when you want world-class performance.

Overall, the Latitude Sport ranks as one of the top tires in its class. In fact, only the General Grabber UHP is on the same level in our opinion. If a high performance summer driving tire is what you are seeking, you won’t go wrong with this model.
