Michelin Primacy HP Tire Review & Rating

Michelin’s Primacy HP is a summer touring tire intended for drivers of luxury sedans and other high end vehicles. Owners of vehicles from Lexus, Mercedes, Audi, and more will find a long list of features including a focus on safety and excellent fuel efficiency.

A unique rubber compound is used in the tread makeup, which Michelin says will decrease stopping distances up to 5%. The compound, along with four wider circumferential grooves, helps provide the tire with increased grip on wet pavement. It is also designed to enhance handling and response for spirited drivers, although this could be improved on.

Michelin Primacy HP Tire Review

Specially designed for unmatched ride comfort and reduced pattern noise, the tire features Michelin’s Comfort Control Technology, which decreases vibration—which in turn decreases road noise. This is achieved by precision manufacturing and a computer optimized design.

The tire is also available in a version which includes Michelin’s Zero Pressure Technology, which means that thanks to reinforced sidewalls, the tire has the ability to be driven without any air pressure for up to 50 miles.

This tire is available in sizes ranging from 16-19 inches in V, W, and Y speed ratings. Michelin also provides a 45K mile tread life warranty.

Pros

  • Good traction on dry surfaces
  • Steering is responsive
  • Comfortable ride

Cons

  • Noisy when driving at higher speeds
  • Poor cornering at higher speeds
  • Expensive

Overall Thoughts

The Primacy HP is a surprising disappointment to us quite frankly. It’s simply an average tire that doesn’t really do anything especially well. This is a tire that may only worth buying as a strict replacement for your original set, which may have come stock on your vehicle, or if your typical driving scenario is slow and in dry weather—and even then, you could do better on the price.

This tire will give you the traction you need to get from point A to point B, but don’t expect stellar handling, cornering, or response at high speeds. If you tend to drive slowly on dry surfaces only, it may serve you well enough. That said, the ride is comfortable, albeit a bit noisy at higher speeds.

Perhaps the biggest issue for this tire is its higher price. For what it offers performance wise, we feel there are better options available.
