Michelin Energy Saver Tire Review & Rating

Developed for drivers looking to increase fuel economy without giving up performance, the Energy Saver from Michelin is built for today’s coupes, sedans and minivans. Used over the years as original equipment on vehicles like the Toyota Prius, Ford Fusion and others, the Energy Saver also sports an environmentally-friendly design that helps reduce CO2 emissions.

Michelin Energy Saver Tire Review

The tire’s circumferential grooves and added lateral notches provide enhanced grip on wet roads and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Michelin claims this model stops up to 10 feet shorter than leading competitor tires, and we would agree that it does a solid job in this area.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort and promotes more even tread wear. Michelin backs this tire with a 50,000 or 40,000 mile warranty depending on size chosen.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction is very good
  • Confident steering feel
  • Longer lasting tread life

Cons

  • Tire noise
  • Ride comfort

Overall Thoughts

Riding on the Energy Saver gives mixed emotions for the most part. While traction and grip on dry and wet road surfaces is very good, and steering is crisp and responsive, there are other issues that affect this tire.

The ride is not harsh by any means, but it just doesn’t seem to live up to Michelin standards. Harder bumps and road obstructions just seem to feel rougher than usual for some reason. Beyond that, we’ve found that road noise is a little more pronounced at times.

Overall, we rank the ES in the middle of the pack for tires in this class. We would recommend going with the Energy Saver AS instead due to its increased performance and especially its ride comfort.
