Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 Tire Review & Rating
The Energy MXV4 S8 from Michelin utilizes their new XSE technology that is engineered to increase traction, treadwear and fuel efficiency. Developed for drivers of coupes, sedans and crossovers, the MXV4 S8 is designed to provide touring all-season performance and good ride comfort.
A new Smart Tread Compound enhances traction on wet pavement, as well as creating a lower rolling resistance for increased fuel economy and lower overall CO2 emissions. The tire’s symmetric tread pattern and European profile increase steering response and give the tire added cornering performance.
Four circumferential grooves and unique lateral grooves provide wet surface traction and handling, while also evacuating water from under the tire’s footprint. Michelin is known for manufacturing tires that are more quiet on the road than other name brands, and the Energy S8 is no different. Green X banding and diagonal intermediate tread blocks lower road noise and further enhance ride comfort.
Inside the tire, Michelin’s exclusive BAZ technology is added to the tire’s twin steel belts for added strength and durability. A Bead Tension Structure provides further performance throughout the speed range, as well as ride comfort. A 50,000 mile warranty is included with this tire, and you will find it available in either an H or V-speed rating.
Pros
- Excellent dry traction and cornering grip
- Steering response is above average
- Ride comfort is very good
- Very little road noise
Cons
- Snow and ice performance
Overall Thoughts
Used as original equipment on Toyota, Lexus and others, this tire provides the ride comfort you would expect from Michelin. Beyond being comfortable, it is also quiet. Dry traction is very good, and cornering performance is adequate for this type of tire.
The biggest issue this tire faces is its poor performance in even light amounts of snow. Deep snow and ice is even more problematic. Despite being an all-season tire, you will want to use extra caution on wet surfaces and especially in winter conditions. Overall, we rank this model in the middle of the touring all-season class.

This tire should not be called a “all-season” tire at all. On dry and very little wet roads these tires do great but any other condition, NOPE!!!
