Mastercraft A/S IV Tire Review & Rating

The Mastercraft A/S IV is billed as an entry-level all-season tire that features a lower price to fit drivers on a tighter budget. In addition, it is one of the few tires that offer a white sidewall in select sizes.

Mastercraft uses an enhanced rubber compound and M+S rated asymmetric tread pattern on the AS IV to deliver predictable dry traction and handling. This tread compound was also created to increase durability and overall treadlife, which is longer lasting than you might expect from a cheaper tire.

Mastercraft A/S IV Tire Review

Four wide circumferential grooves and numerous lateral grooves around the tread are designed to channel away water and increase grip on wet pavement. It further aids in reducing the risks of hydroplaning by clearing away water from the contact patch.

The A/S IV uses variable sized tread elements that help in reducing outside road noise. They do their part, but you may find that noise tends to increase as the tire wears down. That’s a common issue for many all-season tires.

You’ll find a range of 13-16 inch sizes available, which is ideal for those who require smaller sizes. Mastercraft, which is a division of Cooper Tire, backs treadlife on the AS IV for 40K miles.

Pros

  • Dry traction and handling
  • Ride comfort
  • One of few tires to offer white sidewalls

Cons

  • Traction in snow/ice

Overall Thoughts

The Mastercraft AS IV fills a need as a low-cost entry level tire. Having an optional white-wall on select sizes is also a plus since it is more difficult to find that option today. On the road, this model performs adequately in dry and wet conditions, although it does not stand out from the crowd in any one area.

Traction on snow and ice is average at best. Like most every all-season tire, it struggles for grip in deeper snow, ice and hard-pack. If you live in an area that sees its share of winter weather you would be better off getting a set of winter tires.

Overall, you certainly will not mistake this Mastercraft tire for a Continental TrueContact or Michelin Premier A/S among others to be sure. However, if you’re simply looking for a set of cheap tires for everyday driving to work or running errands, the AS IV fills the need.
