Kenda Klever MT KR29 Tire Review & Rating

The Kendas Klever M/T KR29 mud-terrain tire is built to provide rugged off-road performance to go along with more civilized highway drivability. It’s an ambitious offering considering it carries a 60K mile tread warranty. For heavy-duty mud tires, especially ones that are more value priced, this can often prove to be difficult task to say the least.

A tough and more durable tread compound combines with a tread pattern that Kenda has designed to deliver increased traction on all types of terrain. Whether it be driving in mud, gravel and debris on job sites, or for off-road trail riding on the weekends, this model has been built to provide drivers with as much traction as possible.

Kenda Klever MT KR29 Tire Review

Additionally, like many mud-terrain tires, the Klever KR29 offers good performance in the snow-improving the ability to dig a driver out of a cold weather driving scenario. Internally, the tire features dual steel belts and up to a 3-ply sidewall to promote long lasting tread life, in addition to added strength and durability.

While ride comfort is never perfectly smooth or quiet on a mud-terrain tire, Kenda has aimed to offer drives a product which is as comfortable and quiet as possible. The Klever MT is available in sizes ranging from 15-17 inches and load ratings up to an E. A 60K mile tread life warranty is included on all sizes as well.

Pros

  • Excellent off road traction
  • Quiet on the highway for a mud-terrain tire
  • Competitive pricing

Cons

  • Most drivers see 35-45K miles out of the tread

Overall Thoughts

Whether it be for work or play, the Kenda MT delivers more than capable traction. Dirt, mud, sand, gravel and other terrain are no problem for this tire. Unless you’re looking to climb rocks, this model is up to the task.

On the highway you can expect to hear a little humming, but it’s not as loud as you might expect. Others have mentioned this as well. Traction on wet pavement is good, and performance in the snow is about average for tires in this class. It’s an area that could use a bit of improvement, but it’s not terrible by any means.

Treadlife is about the only area where a few drivers have had issues with. It’s safe to say the tread should give you around 35-45K miles, which given the lower cost is not a huge issue, but one we want to mention.

Overall, for the lower cost and good performance, the Klever M/T KR29 delivers. It makes for a solid choice if you’re looking for a rugged mud-terrain tire. Its feature set and reliability will be hard to beat at this price.

  1. I bought a set of Kenda MT`s, at first I loved the tires for the costs and the look. After having to have them rebalanced 11 times in 10,000 miles I wish I had never seen these tires. The shop I bought them from has been gracious in handling the rebalances but not long after I got mine they started with similar issues with almost every Kenda tire they sold. They balance out at first, but let the temperature change some, the humidity, whatever and they`re back to bouncing my truck like I`ve got worn out ties and it takes and ounce or so a tires to get them straight again, until it happens again. I`m not losing weights, we`ve tracked how many and where they`ve been put on. At least 2 out of the 4 give an issue and the area rep is zero help in trying to help with the issue. I will never buy these tires ever again, no matter how long they last, the shitty ride is just not worth the costs. Now I`m either going to have to replace these early and hopefully sell what I have or ride it out and gain an expensive lesson.

  2. I have had 3 sets of these, 265-70-17’s. I live on a mountain in Colorado at 10,000 ft. We get snow and mud along with alot of rain. Being several miles from a paved road and up and down hill these tires work!!!
I put them on mine and my wife’s trucks and I have 5 children 2 that have medical issues. 20 below and 2-3 feet of snow at times, I run these so we can get out any time and they have never let me down! As long as you rotate them they will last year’s.

  3. I’ve got 40K miles on my Klever MT K29’s and should have no problem getting 60K miles out of my first set on a 2015 Jeep Rubicon Hardrock JKU. My set had proper balancing and tire rotation every 10K miles. I’m very happy with the performance of these tires both on and off road and will be purchasing my second set when this set finally wears out.

      1. I purchased a 2015 stock rubicon jku
From a Jeep dealer 2 years ago with 48500 miles on it in 2019 with these brand new kenda klever 255/75r17 kr29 on it and have really been liking them so far. I have these tires rotated at each oil change by Evansville Expressway Dodge Jeep. But, a month ago I have noticed some bad chopping of the front tires and it causes my front to vibrate. I run 37psi in them. My jeep is still basicly stock. Ive only added an aev front bumper and warn winch. I’m not a rock crawler, just forestry roads and gravel and pavement. I just had an oil change and they put the choppy tires in the back. It helped a little but still vibrates quite a bit at 62 to 70mph. The treads are still deep and now I don’t know what to do. I liked the looks and drive of the kendal. Should I buy 2 new kendas and put them in the front? Would any tire warranty cover me toward new tires. I really hate to just purchase 2 and have the front treads newer/taller than the back ones. I had planned to lift my jeep 2.5″ in the future and put kenda 35’s on my orange rubicon but unsure now. I really dont know what caused the chopping on 2 front tires. My brother in law, at Miles equipment tire shop, balanced them for me when I got back from oil change to see if it would help vibration. We both noticed that the 2 tires really bouncing ,rising/falling bad, as the tires spun. Could the belts have broken internally? The chopping on both tires are diagonally across the tires around the tires.I only have 71300 miles on jeep now which is only 22800 miles on these tires. I can’t handle this vibration , now coming from the back but these tires have been great up until now and its only the ones that were in the front that are choppy. The steering tracks well and is not out of line.

  4. Worst mud tire I ever owned. Never stayed balanced and you would be lucky to get 30,000 miles out of them. Will not be buying a Kenda tire again period!
