Kanati Mud Hog Tire Review & Rating
The Kanati Mud Hog is not a tire that a lot of drivers are familiar with, but it’s actually a tire produced by Greenball, which have been making quality ATV and motorcycle tires for years now. This M/T tire is designed for drivers of light pickups and SUV’s that seek superior off-road performance as well as dependable on-road manners.
A tougher and more puncture resistant tread compound is molded into an aggressive tread pattern that features deeper lugs and staggered shoulders. The tire’s higher voids are designed to provide increased traction in mud, clay, sand and gravel, which is an area this tire performs well in.
Added siping around the tread help give this tire added traction on hard-pack. It also provides better grip on snow and ice. A reinforced 3-ply sidewall offers superior resistance to punctures, tears and other damage you often encounter out on the trails.
A nice surprise on the Mud Hog is its self-cleaning abilities. It clears out the mud with the best tires in this class due in part to the alternating shoulder lugs.
Inside the tire you will find a 6-ply tread that includes 3 polyester, 2 steel and 1 nylon cap ply. A reinforced bead with a built-in rim guard is also included on this tire. Various sizes are available ranging from 15-20 inches.

Overall Thoughts
Despite the fact that few people have heard much about the Kanati Mud Hog, it performs quite well overall. We like the aggressive looks, which is kind of like a combination of the Goodyear MTR and Nitto Trail Grappler.
Performance on hard-pack, mud, sand, dirt, gravel and rock is very good on this model, and the tires self-clean as well as most any tire in this class. Driving on the street you’ll find competent road manners and ride that is a little more quiet than other M/T tires, although it does put out a hum at highway speeds. We’re not saying there isn’t noise because there is, but it just isn’t as loud as many others in this class.
Overall, we’ve known Greenball for their well-built ATV and motorcycle tires for years. This new expansion into the light truck mud tire market is a big hit in our opinion. Sure, there are other tires in this class that offer a little higher performance, but we rank this as a middle of the pack performer.

I purchased a 2015 Ram 3500 dual Cummins with 37/12.50R17 Mud s on it and they have been great. I tow a goose neck on occasion around 22k lbs and you can feel them a little but not too bad. Added a little more air and it tightened up. I would buy again but now they have the Armor Hog out so will probably go with them and drop down to 35s.
I have a 2018 Chevy 2500 HD. Have had several from 2003 till now and 6 or 7 different mud tires. I have never had a complaint about any until this tire. They will not balance. Noticed it rite off the bat. Three times the shop has tried.
The tire is priced cheep for a reason. My tires will not balance! I don’t think they are safe either! I’m trying to return them and starting to get the run around. If I’m unsuccessful, I’ll be happy to share the online retailers name.
Don’t buy these!
I just purchased these as well had them balanced twice at the shop. The shop told me there not rounded completely an is causing my vehicle to shake like crazy an they also bounce up an down like a basketball you can jack the wheel up spin it an watch the tire go up an down have literally had them on my vehicle 4 days. Trying to see if I can get my money back out of them. I would not recommend these tires to anyone.
Just bought a set of 35×12.50×17″ Kanati Mud Hogs for my 2005 Ford F250 SuperDuty. Price cant be beat, but after driving them for a few days I felt like something was broken or loose under my truck. Was gonna bring the truck back to the shop that I bought them at and tell them to put the truck on the rack and find out what they broke or forgot to tighten when they installed the tires. Then I read the reviews on this model of tire. Seems that the 6 ply tread and weaker sidewalls produces a wandering feel to the truck when going around corners and changing lanes. Actually feels a bit unsafe. in the end, I don’t be;lieve I would purchase these tires again. They were cheap, but you know what they say……”You get what you pay for”……

They look really tough and sporty but I don’t think they are safe only have 100miles on them
Can you put these on a 3/4 ton pickup?
I purchased a set of the Kanati Mud Hog MT 2 years ago for my F150 in a 285/75R17. I love the aggressive look of the tires and the comfortable ride they offer. They have a deep tread depth from what I remember as well as 3 ply sidewalls.! Now that is a tough tire. I have rotated them every oil change to keep my tires in top shape!. No cupping, no chunking. This is an overall Quality built tire. For my next set I am going to try the Kanati TRAIL HOG AT that is a Snowflake rated tire.
For anyone looking to buy the Kanati Mud Hog MT, I would recommend this tire wholeheartedly.
HAD A SET OF 315/75R16’S FOR OVER 2.5 YEARS AND LOVED THEM. ONLY REASON TI HAD TO GET RID OF THEM WAS A LOWER BALL JOINT AND TIE ROD NEEDING TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF OUTSIDE WEARING ON BOTH FRONT TIRES. I JUST BOUGHT MY SECOND SET OF 4, A BIT SMALLER AT 275/75 OFF AMAZON FOR A TOTAL OF $530 AND FREE SHIPPING. CANT BE BEAT FOR PRICE AND PERFORMANCE. I HAD NITTO TRAIL GRAPPLERS BEFORE THE NITTOS, WHICH COST AROUND $1200 FOR A SET OF 4, ANT THE NITTOS WORE OUT IN LESS THAN A YEAR. IM A STRONG FAN OF KANATI AND WILL NEVER BUY OR PROMOTE NITTO AGAIN.
I’ve had the mud hogs fox 5 months the tread life sucks . ive put about 4k on them and already I’m going to have to replace them soon. Complete rip off.
What truck, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton?
I have these on my jeep commander. I have had about 2 years out of them running pavement and gravel roads. Just replaced them but the old ones are still good enough for probably another year of wear. I cant speak for heavier rigs but for me I cant beat them.

For the price, they cannot be beat. Sure, there are better tires…….that cost a lot more money. Of course, pricing and availability changes by the day, and even several times a day, with grey market items like tires. On a 1/2 ton truck, I acquired 35X12.50R17. 35″ tires are virtually the most common size for upgraded trucks, Jeeps, and offroad vehicles. Most lift kits are designed around using a 35″ tire. On my truck, these handle perfectly on trails, off trails, and on pavement with inclement conditions. My last set of 35″ offroad tires was $1,200. That is just about what every shop tries to make across the board for a set, no matter which brand they are trying to sell you. These were $160 per tire = $640 for a set. Sure, then there are all the extra fees for mounting, balancing, recycling, alignment…..and sales tax. You will still save money. Your vehicle will be driveable. Your handling will be better than all weather, highway tread, whatever else you can find at the same price point. Don’t be mistaken. FireStone, DieHard, BFGoodrich, GoodYear, Michelin, Toyo, Mickey Thompson, ProComp…..all the major brands known to be great tires, are better than this tire. You are not getting the best tire on the market.
ive had these tires for a little while now and there a ok tire but the sidewall is kinda soft and walk around on the corners makes you think something is broke on you vehicle like your sway bar and seem to wear a little faster than i hoped but for the price they got me out of a pinch really can say i would suggest these for any truck bigger than a 1/2 ton mine is a 3/4 ton and like i said they just wiggle around and walk and wear fast so i hope this helps somebody with there decision on there tires
