Hankook Winter I*cept iZ W606 Tire Review & Rating

The Hankook Winter i*cept iZ W606 is a premium winter tire built for drivers of high performance touring vehicles. With a focus on design elements which enhance traction in snow and ice, the W606 is also engineered to provide longer treadlife and added fuel efficiency.

Hankook uses a high grip silica tread compound that has been developed to remain pliable in cold temperatures and provide drivers with the type of dependable traction you expect from a winter tire. This compound is molded into what Hankook calls their “Husky Paw Print” tread block shape. The goal here is to further enhance grip on snow, ice and slush.

The tire’s 3-D shoulder blocks and larger outer tread blocks add to handling performance on dry cold pavement. Interlocking 3-D sipes around the tread not only provide extra traction on rain or slush covered road surfaces, but they add a little extra stability as well.

Inside the tire you’ll find a wide steel belt layer that enhances stiffness for improved handling and response, as well as increased long term durability. Finally, Hankook has added a high-hardness bead filler on this tire to further address handling at highway speeds.

The W606 is available in sizes ranging from 14-18 inches in a T-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is also provided.

Overall Thoughts

Hankook’s W606 is a fine winter tire which excels in several areas. While this tire is reasonably priced for the performance it delivers, it is not available in a particularly large range of sizes. However, if it fits your vehicle, you can expect very good winter weather traction and handling.

One area that stands out on this model is its promise of providing you with high end handling and response in winter driving conditions. The unique tread pattern and sturdy design elements perform more than adequately in snow, slush, and ice. The tire also performs surprisingly well on dry road conditions, particularly for a winter tire.

Compared to other tires in its class, this tire has a few typical shortcomings common to many winter tires. Ride comfort is one of these shortcomings. The tire has a little added pattern noise, which to be fair is not a major distraction. Furthermore, tread life is about average among tires in this class.

With these considerations in mind, this tire is overall a decently priced and dependable winter tire. Simply stated, it delivers reliable traction on snow, ice and other winter weather elements, which is really what most drivers are looking for in a winter tire.

Warranty

Hankook Tires provides a limited treadlife warranty on the iZ W606. A one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on tire uniformity is also included. Materials and workmanship have a 5 year guarantee and come with free tire replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Hankook will then prorate the amount down to 2/32 inch of tread depth.
