Hankook Ventus H101 Tire Review & Rating

The Hankook Ventus H101 blends an old school look with some of the latest tire technology. One look at its raised white letters and unique tread pattern makes you think of other tires like the BFGoodrich Radial T/A or Cooper Cobra GT. Hankook has designed the H101 to deliver reliable all-season performance with longer treadwear and a higher level of ride quality for drivers of all types of trucks, SUV’s and older muscle cars.

Hankook uses an all-season tread compound with a computer optimized tread pattern that provides more solid dry and wet traction, as well as more precise handling stability. This tread pattern also helps give the tire a smoother and more quiet ride on various road surfaces.

A continuous center rib and wider shoulder blocks increase cornering grip and overall handling at higher speeds. You’ll find the steering response to be quick and braking/acceleration is more than adequate for this model. Four wide circumferential grooves and added sipes enhance wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Tread noise has been effectively reduced on the H101 through the use of DDPT (Dual Depth Pitch Theory) technology. What this fancy terminology means is that the tire’s footprint and casing development has been computerized and optimized to provide a higher level of comfort on the street while maintaining longer treadwear.

Inside the tire you’ll find twin steel belts that are spirally wrapped with nylon for increased strength and added long term durability. The Ventus H101 features a 400 UTQG rating and comes with a 45K mile tread warranty. It’s available in a number of 15 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Old school look with its raised white letters
  • Dry and wet traction
  • Good handling and stability
  • Ride comfort

Cons

  • Winter traction and handling

Overall Thoughts

The Hankook H101 is a throwback of sorts to the muscle car and truck days. We like the performance this tire offers when it comes to traction and handling. Whether the roads are dry or wet, this tire holds its own quite well for a high performance all-season model. The ride is smooth and quiet, and treadlife is good based on reviews from other owners.

Naturally, winter grip is not a strong suit for the H101. It should get you around on light snow, but anything heavier or any ice could be problematic.

While not at the top of its class, it’s still a solid option for drivers looking to add a good looking white letter tire to their ride. It’s a shame it isn’t available in larger sizes.
