Hankook Optimo H426 Tire Review & Rating

Used mainly as original equipment on a wide array of Hyundai vehicles, the Hankook Optimo H426 is built to provide all-season performance and handling for all types of coupes and sedans as well.

An all-season tread compound combined with a symmetric tread design and independent tread blocks enhance dry traction and cornering performance. It is also created to increase steering response and provide added feel.

Hankook Optimo H426 Tire Review

Four circumferential grooves and lateral curved grooves should aid wet traction and handling. This tire is also designed to improve handling in light snow, which you can read more about in our overall thoughts on this model.

Inside the tire there are two steel belts with a nylon reinforcement that help with durability. A polyester cord body enhances ride comfort. Hankook includes a 60,000 mile tread guarantee on this model.

Pros

  • Good dry handling and grip
  • Value priced and has a 60,000 mile warranty

Cons

  • Treadlife could be better
  • Winter traction and handling
  • Tire is noisy for many drivers

Overall Thoughts

We will say that the Optimo H426 does have good dry traction and handling, and the price is lower than many other comparable tires. There’s also a 60K mile tread warranty. Unfortunately, that’s where the good things end.

Traction on wet pavement needs a big improvement. You simply have to slow down and really take things easy when the rain falls. In addition, winter performance is nearly non-existent. As some have said, you may be better off just leaving your vehicle parked at home if you’re faced with trying to drive in deep snow or ice. Beyond that, expect to find more road noise than normal, and treadwear has been a major issue for way too many drivers.

Overall, we can’t recommend this tire and suggest going for the Optimo H727 as a better option.

  1. My wife’s 2014 Ford Explorer came with these tires new and I’ve just put our third set on. The past two sets lasted right at 60k miles and I’ve honestly really enjoyed them. Smooth ride and great traction in wet and dry, I honestly don’t what what everyone is complaining about. I’ve been researching tires for my own vehicle and I’ve noticed that no matter which tire option you select on this site, very rarely does anyone say anything positive in the reviews about the tires so it’s difficult to gather any useful information. Nothing but horror stories but I’ll say I’ve had excellent experiences with these optimo h426’s and wouldn’t hesitate to put the forth set on come time.

  2. All hankook tires suck I have 2019 Nissan Rogue factory hankook tires lasted 13500 bald rotated every 5 k miles my 2020 Hyundai Kona has junk hankook tires too half wore out only 6000 miles on it would never buy hankook tires their warranty isn’t worth paper it is written on I only had them because it’s what auto manufacturer put on the cars

  3. Had these for a few years on a 2012 Accent hatchback. Haven’t had many issues provided the weather is good. Absolutely the worst tires I’ve experienced in snow.

    1. Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback. As per my research Hankook Optimo has received some good
reviews but these tires are not particularly designed for performing in extreme cold weathers, so maybe you should reconsider if you
live in an area with such an issue.

  4. These tires suck. Have been informed by firestone need new tires. Flat as a board. Have 17,000 miles This is ridiculous. If Hyundai is continuing to use these tires I feel they are cheap and unethical utilizing tires that are unsafe and don’t last. for shit. Will be having a little talk with Hyundai. I want new tires and im not paying for them. Will never buy a Hyundai car again. Tired of crappy American companies ****ing over the consumer. When you buy a new car (its a 2016 model) and pay so much money, one would think car company would use reliable safe tires that last at least the norm of 40,000 miles. GEE MUST FEEL SORRY FOR THESE POOR AMERICAN COMAPNIES THAT GOT BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TAX BREAKS.

    1. I know i have a Kona and same problem no miles and they wear out and yes Kia and Hyundai is made in West Point Georgia so yes they are partially American made even though the parts come from Korea

  5. We bought a brand new 2017 Toyota Corolla that came with these tires. We are now at 44,000 km and have had our fair share of flats with these tires. We do live down 4 miles of gravel but I’ve never had any other tire provide us with such poor reliability. We have a full winter set of Goodyear’s and never had one issue. With our Optimos, our first flat was at 560 km. That’s right, didn’t even last the first tank of gas. We have had so many flat repairs that the belts in one tire have now separated. We are looking at buying a new set of tires already and I will in no way ever consider these tires again.

  6. My wife and I purchased a Ford Fiesta last spring and she does drive a lot of miles on her daily commute to work but,We also just got rid of our Altima before we purchased the fiesta and both sets of brand new tires didn’t last more than 12 months! Both cars are rear wheel drive ,but for whatever reason the back set of tires where so loud, because of the unusual tread wear we had to just change them with Goodyear, and so far so good.Ive been burnt twice by this hankook optimo tire and I’m just hoping to help out anyone who wants a straight up true answer about this tire.Good luck with your tire purchase.

  7. Not only are these tires dangerous in winter road conditions, I would even go as far as saying they are deadly. Only experienced drivers should operate a vehicle with these tires when there is snow or ice on the road.
    A recall should be initiated.

  8. I had the tires rotated on my wifes 2015 Hyundai Elantra it has 15000 miles on it. My luck one of tires had a roofing nail in the edge of the side wall so I replaced it with a new hankook tire identical to match the set. H426 P215/45SR17 87H. The new. Tire has a red
Dot / circle on the side wall.what does this stand for? My problem is there is lot more road noise now. The car drives smoothly, Ithink the tire is balanced. Have any suggestions?
