Hankook Optimo H725A Tire Review & Rating

The Optimo H725A touring all-season tire from Hankook is built to deliver year-round traction and handling, as well as a more comfortable ride. This model has been used as original equipment on vehicles like the Volkswagen Jetta, Chevy Malibu and several others, and also as a replacement tire for all types of sedans and minivans.

An all-season tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern combines with independent tread blocks to increase traction on dry and wet road surfaces, while providing competent cornering performance. The continuous center rib increases steering response and overall stability throughout the speed range.

Four circumferential grooves evacuate water from under the tire and help in reducing the risk of hydroplaning. The tread is optimized to deliver a more comfortable ride by eliminating a lot of the outside road noise, something most drivers will appreciate.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with a nylon cap ply that adds strength and durability to the tread. A polyester cord body enhances ride comfort by softening the ride. Hankook offers 16-17 sizes in the H725A, and includes a 50,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Very good dry traction
  • Comfortable ride
  • Longer lasting tread life

Cons

  • Wet traction could be much better
  • Winter handling

Overall Thoughts

The H725A delivers basic touring all-season performance without excelling in any one particular area. While dry traction and handling are very capable, and the ride is quiet and comfortable for the most part, this model does have its faults.

Wet handling performance is weaker than we would like to see. It is similar to what you find on the H725 model. It requires you to slow down and pay a bit more attention to conditions, especially when cornering on wet pavement. Winter weather traction is also lacking on this model. This is confirmed by many other driver reviews and ratings on the tire.

Treadlife on this tire is good, and Hankook backs it up with a 50,000 mile warranty.

Overall, we rank this tire in the lower half of the touring all-season class. We like other models such as the Hankook Optimo H727, or tires like the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring and Michelin Premier A/S among many others as excellent options for higher performance, comfort and value.
