Hankook Optimo H418 Tire Review & Rating
The Optimo H418 all-season touring tire from Hankook is used extensively as original equipment on many vehicles such as models from Kia and other car makers. It is also available as a replacement tire for drivers of all types of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers.
The all-season tread compound is designed to provide traction on dry, wet and snow covered road surfaces. Independent tread blocks and a solid center rib combine to increase dry handling and cornering grip, while also enhancing steering response throughout the speed range.
Circumferential grooves and an interlocking shoulder rib add to wet traction when road conditions deteriorate. The grooves evacuate water from under the footprint and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Multiple sipes around the tread design provide biting edges for those times you find yourself driving through packed snow or on ice.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts reinforced with a nylon cap ply to add strength and durability to the tread at higher speeds. They also add more overall stability and promote even tread wear. Hankook includes a solid 65,000 mile tread guarantee as well.
Pros
- Very good dry and wet traction
- Steering response is crisp
- Ride is comfortable and quiet
- Value priced
Cons
- Tread life could be a little better
- Snow and ice traction
Overall Thoughts
The H418 does provide good dry and wet traction on a variety of road surfaces. While it doesn’t do anything outstanding, it does give you good all-around performance. Driving in deep snow and ice is not a strong suit with this tire, however, it does ok on light snow covered roads. The ride on this model is comfortable and very quiet, which is also an area mentioned in other driver reviews for this tire.
While the Optimo H418 is warranted for 65,000 miles, many drivers have not seen that many miles before the tread became worn out. That said, the lower price may make this a good option for some.
Overall, this tire ranks in the lower half of the class for all-season models.
